NPD MXR '78 Bad Ass Distortion

I really love this pedal. I can get all the crunch I need and the bright switch pushes it a bit further. I highly recommend it. I noticed that if I have my compressor on with it, I get some major feedback. But I'm only a couple feet from my amp.

Here's my current board
Polytune
Rogue Compressor
VOX Tonebender (1968ish)
TS9 Tubscreamer
'78 Bad Ass
Rogue Analog Delay
Love Pedal Babyface Tremolo

Congrats! Glad you like it...I have to try one.

Curious...is your Rogue Comp noisy?

Not if I keep my sustain knob below 12 o'clock. It's my first Comp so I don't have much to compare it to.

I love mine. MXR is making some great stuff. I almost have enough for an all MXR board. I have the 78 Dist, CC, GCOD, and I have the M234 Chorus on order.

I quit buying boutique as more often than not it ends in dissapointment.

I don't regret getting my Boss CE-5 Chorus (had it maybe 8-10 years now, have no reason to change up) BUT the MXR M234 has the exact same control layout, is analog (the Boss is dig) and is not expensive...I think the Boss sounds great, but bet the MXR sounds warmer...

Glad you like your '78, I like mine, too. But, "bright switch"? Mine doesn't have a bright switch, I can't imagine that, it's way bright already.

Sorry, I meant "Crunch". The light is so bright it fried my brain. I noticed the crunch light stays on even when you bypass the pedal. Thought that was rather weird.

Glad you like it, I like mine too. I've heard a lot of people complain about how bright and fizzy the pedal is. The brightness is easily tamed by turning the tone knob down (duh) and I don't hear the fizziness??? I love that pedal.

I think using the pedal set to little to no gain really gooses the high mids on my tele, in a very cool way. Really brings the twang.

I hate where the light is placed on it, though.

still enjoying my 78 too, rediscovered the pedal with my DRRI, on that amp the 78 gives my Maxon od808 serious competition at low gain settings...

blowtorch, I have gripes about the lights too, those blue lights on my 78 and CC are too darn bright.... I know those are the great "stage ready" lights that are boasted in the demos, but in a dark room I can't make out a thing on my board for all that bright light... I like plain old dim lights.... still very impressed with the recent MXR stuff.

The only tweak I'd make to this pedal would be to add another footswitch option for the crunch setting.

I could agree with this. Although usually I just put the Crunch on and leave it on--I'm not certain what voodoo that button is doing to the sound, but it definitely sounds a bit "bigger" when on.

And add me as another fan of this pedal. First OD pedal I've ever loved (or gotten along with, for that matter). And the clean boost capability of it when you turn the knobs low is a great and useful surprise.

I leave the crunch button engaged too so it's no big deal but having that option available would be useful to some I suppose...

When you bypass the pedal, does the crunch light stay lit for you guys?

I set my sustain to about 11 o'clock for always on usage. The hiss level is tolerable...nothing unusual.

Is it me, or does this pedal add a ton of volume? When I noodle at home, I'll set my amp clean and at a low volume and then turn the pedal on and man, this thing kicks in some serious volume even when I have the pedal's volume pretty low. I'll run this next to my Bad Monkey and this thing kicks out a lot more volume than the Monkey at the same volume levels.

I use one as well. I love it. I don't use the crunch button, but I also have the gain a bit higher than most people would. Now I am just waiting to afford the new Custom OD.
