Fender Mustang Floor
Just saw on Twitter that Fender introduced the Mustang Floor, basically the Mustang interface without the power amp and speaker. Wow.

![]() Street Price, $299. Fender introduces its first ever multi-effects unit in the form of the Mustang Floor -a versatile high-performance floor unit that delivers pro-level amp modeling, effects and artist preset sounds in a richly varied wealth of musical styles. And you don’t have to be a tech expert to use the Mustang Floor - it’s easy to use right out of the box. A natural offshoot of our Mustang series amplifiers (basically a Mustang amp without the power amp and speaker), the Mustang Floor is designed for a variety of applications, only one of which is a great multi-effects unit for any basic guitar amp that puts more than three dozen digital effects at your feet. It’s also a modeling preamp with low-impedance speaker-emulated outputs for running direct to a PA system, a modeling preamp with line-level outputs for use with a power amp and speakers, a silent practice system with stereo headphone output and auxiliary input perfect for playing along with an iPod or other media player, and a fantastic tone machine for direct-to-digital USB recording. Mustang Floor features include 9 footswitches and a solid aluminum treadle-style control pedal, intuitive Mustang III control panel and LCD window, 12 amp models, 37 effects (7 OD/Distortion effects, 11 Modulation effects, 9 Delay effects and 10 Reverb effects), 100 onboard factory and user presets, “individual stompbox” mode in which amp models can be bypassed, headphone output and auxiliary input, dual XLR and dual 1/4" line outputs with level control (outputs can be programmed for optimal response with PA system, power amp or guitar amp), chromatic tuner, and easy USB connectivity for high-quality low-latency audio output and interface with free Fender FUSE™ application. Fender FUSE™ software, included as a free download, offers on-screen parameter control, deep editing, “hidden” parameters, unlimited preset storage, easy firmware upgrades and additional free content from Fender, Fender artists and other users worldwide. Additional control available with optional EXP-1 pedal.

Yikes. Same street price as the Mustang III?
I know that the cabinets on Mustang amps are pretty much one step above paper mache, but there is a 12" Celestion G12T-100 speaker in there and a 100 watt power amp section of some COGs (cost of goods) value. So the foot pedal, steel cage, and buttons equal the cost out to a III? |

I've been thinking if this realy is 'exactly' what I was wanting.
Stomp box mode, XLR out, great. I was getting tempted to butcher a Mustang I + footswitch into a floor/pedal unit. This new 'floor' model looks to do a quite a lot more in terms of (foot) switching capabilities than I could get out of my 'butcher' idea. But I di like direct input dials for volume etc. on the M I. And its more expensive than I'd hoped. Might still do the M I project... Last edited by Colin; January 19th, 2012 at 04:00 AM. |

I have big hopes for this one. We've gone to IEM's and want to be stage ampless. I don't want to carry a guitar amp anyway because I'm a keyboard player and already carry too much stuff. The layout looks promising. Where I have had problems in the past with modelers is getting a good clean sound. I like how the wah/volume pedal has a stomp swith like my old Cry Baby.

I have a Mustang III amp, and I absolutely love it. Admittedly though, this is kind of tempting. I live in an apartment (which means headphones all the time), though when I go up to my fiance's parents house, I can use an amp. This pedal board would allow me to continue practicing at home and I could leave the amp up there (I have a bass amp up, but I have to pull my pedal board with me each time I want to play).
I've never had much luck with multi-fx units or modeling amps, but the Mustang series really is very simple. In my experience, there is a bit more variety with other modellers like Line 6, but for ease of use the Mustang's can't be beat. I like that this has a dedicated tap button (I have both 4- and 2- button switches, but you still have to select what functions the 2-button switch does to get to a tap tempo). It will all depend on what the user is looking for, but originally when I heard about this I figured people would be better off with just getting the amp, but now that I actually see it and have heard a demo, it doesn't seem like quite as bad a product. Not sure what the expression pedal will be used for, though, since the Mustang's otherwise don't have anything which requires it. I would assume volume or wah of course, but haven't seen any break down about what specific effects it has. |
