So what order do you put your pedals in?

Just wondering because I'm about to purchase a Fulltone GT500, Behringer Vintage Time Machine, Joyo Digital Delay, and perhaps a Joyo Dyna Compression...

There's actually no rule in pedal board setup but most guitar players including myself put it like this -->

Guitar --> Wah -> Volume pedal -> Overdrive -> Modulation pedals -> AMP

I prefer to using modultaion before dirt pedal (except tremolo). Also, some delays work nice before dirt.

With what I have currently:

Guitar > Tuner > Phaser > Compressor > High Gain ODs > Medium Gain ODs > Low Gain ODs > Double Sided ODs > Lead Boost > Delay > Amp

I always put the Tuner first (critical for tuning for me and also buffer), and the Delay last. I sometimes change up the order of the dirtboxes, for a while I was running Guitar > Low Gain > Medium Gain > High Gain > Amp but now it's backwards for the time being. Not sure which way I like better. I always put the Boost after the dirt though, to boost volume and not gain.

For me its ->

Tuner -> Compressor -> Wah -> Clean Boost -> OD Boost -> Delay

More specifically

TU-3 -> Dyna Comp -> 95Q Wah -> Sparkle Drive -> BD-2 -> DD-7

I go:

Guitar > wah > tuner > dynamics (comp and a gate when I used it) > EHX Ring Thing (my odd-ball pedal. Used for slight ring mod, univibe, phase and pitch shift effects) > od > fuzz/dist > [Effects loop: EQ (for solo boost) > Mod > Delay > Reverb] > Amp

The wah is only out front because it was easier to run the cables that way. I feel like the whole thing is kind of a weird order, looking at it all typed out. Oh well, whatever works!

I use a distortion before my wah, and another one after it, than chorus and delay

• Overdrive/Fuzz/Distortion
• EQ
• Pitch (Vibrato/Pitch Shifter)
• Modulation (Chorus/Flanger)
• Level (Volume Pedal)
• Echo (Delay/Reverb)

Ernie Jr Volume>Dunlop Wah>RAT>Tubescreamer>Keeley Compressor>EP Boost>DD20 delay.

Looper Bar bypasses each pedal, tuner bypasses all on a switch, Global bypass switch as well.

ABY switch at the end for Fender Deluxe versus Vox AC15C1 amp. Possibly TMI.

Can be done both ways:

Comp->OD: Will even out the effect of picking dynamics on the OD and result in a more uniform gain; and this will very likely boost the gain of the OD for a fatter, crunchier tone - with less of a volume increase.

OD->Comp: OD will still react to picking dynamics (eg. clean up when picking softer), but the volume level gets evened out - you can use the comp for a bit of extra volume/punch, without changing the gain of the OD; this set-up will also increase noise generated at the OD stage, so you'd better use "quiet" pedals...

I have just a small Boss 3-pedal board but will use up to 5 pedals MAX- one or two "dirt" pedals will come first, before the board, and they run just on battery....just don't feel like getting a bigger board

for me it's:

OD#1>OD#2> TU-2>BOSS Board (TU-2> either Trem or Chorus>DD-3)>Fender Amp

*** Note: just got a Phase 90 and it will NOW go first (off the board) and OD pedal now is in my #2 "free spot" on Boss board

When I do use a pedal chain it's;

guitar>tuner>drive(s)>wah>attack-modulation>phaser>pitchshift>tremolo>delay>reverb> amp

my pedals couldn't possibly suck tone worse than I do
guitar > TC Polytuner > Boss DN2/DOD10 > VOX845 > Behringer SM200 > BellAudioLabs Phaser/ADT > Boss PS2 > Boss TR2 > TC Flashback > Boss RRV10 > amp

Still experimenting with where to put the attack modulation pedal and the tremolo.

Very true Roman....I only kick my comp on during playing so the noise issue doesn't occur or at least it's not audible until I quit playing or I kick my od off. I started doing this when I read that the comp after od mimics the tube compression of the amp after the OD....however now that I think of it I'm using a tube amp so that is a bit redundant...maybe the author of that was using a SS amop........Im gonna go play my guitar and move it back and forth and see what I like best....

Guitar > Tuner > Delay > Reverb > Trem > OD1 > OD2 > Amp

My reasoning is that I don't like overdrive clipping the delay or reverb. I really like a kind of clean/dirty sound. This gets pretty close. Also I believe delays/reverbs want to see more power from a power supply than overdrive/distortion. I use a a OneSpot so this order also helps, IMO.
