Opposite of compression pedal?

Hello, I'm looking for a pedal that basically "enhances" the dynamics of the guitar signal. For example, if I'm playing "normally" the signal just passes through, but if I pick harder (more aggressively), the signal is more amplified. This would give me the ability to make certain passages in a song more "prominent" without fiddling with knobs or pedals.

Is there any pedal that does this?

The opposite of a compression pedal would be no pedal and lots of headroom.

Try a Twin Reverb.

JMHO.

More watts with less gain.

+1 on this - take a look at Roy Buchanan, He plays with his amp wide open - no pedals

What they said. Or you could also try a basic volume pedal.

There are such things as gates and expanders which are technically the opposite of compressors or limiters. You're more likely to find them as rack mountable devices than pedals I would think though.

Finding useable threshold, attack and release settings would probably be tricky but I've heard of it working for some people.

Volume pedal would be the simple way to do it.

Get a Nocturne Dynobrain.

I second the Nocturne. To me, it sounds like you want a preamp that opens up the sound of your guitar and pickups before it hits the amp. The Atomic Brain (and variants) do exactly this...

Turn up your amp, focus on your right hand technique.

Correct on clean, higher watts, lower gain sentiments and I will add the following:

Play single coil/lower level pickups too. That affects the signal level that is hitting your amp on the front end.

In most ways playing with compressor pedals (and OD too, to a large extent because they are related) decreases your dynamics. So, if "the oppposite of compression" is what you want, then do decrease your gain, increase your head room, use single coil pickups, and do enhance your pick-hand techniques. You may take a hit in your sustain, but you will also achieve your objective in my opinion.
