Big Knob Pedals here in UK are very good value for money, and sound a lot like the devices they emulate. Zed Drive is very good!

Gotta agree there!

When Dano came out with the TOD V.2 (which they hyped as being an improvement, truth is they had to veer away from the "Timmy"design) I bought one as having previoulsy owned (and given away) a TOD V.1- I knew what it sounded like....After 1/2 hour of fiddling (with controls, and dip switches) I said "****** it!" and sent it back to MF to trade for a Dano TOD V.1., luckilly before Dano stopped making them

The Dano TOD V.1 is just a great easy to work with clean boost>medium Gain OD (I know the controls are a pain- but you get used to them) IMO it gives you the best of what you can get from a TS, BD-2, and an OD-3

Within the £80 price range one could get the Digitech Hardwire Overdrive which is very good, but is the bad monkey just a cheaper version that sounds the same?
I haven't noticed any tone sucking, it's a great sounding tube screamer-like pedal.

Maybe more gain than what your looking for, but I really like the MXR 79 distortion. Keep the gain all the way down and it does a pretty good OD. Only $79.

A used BB preamp can be had for just within that budget. They aren't seen used often cuz nobody wants to sell them =P

Agree on the Big Knob pedals, here in the UK. I've got their TS clone and it's fantastic, under 80 quid as well.

I'll throw in with the SD1. You can also mod it to make it different, which I like.

I had a Tone Boner (their version of the Super Hard On). It was well made and reasonably priced. But it looks like they're having a break just now http://www.bigknobpedals.com/products.htm

The TOD v1 is the best I've used... Better than any boss at any rate. I had a rat and turbo rat which were both excellent, but a little too much fizz in the mix. The danelectro sounds scarily close too my princeton reverb cranked. Its scary.

I'd recommend the MXR GT-OD or Coffin Blood Drive (they sound identical to me). Great overdrives.

$40 MXR classic OD. Nice pedal....built well....metal case. And you can flip it to be the same as their other Zack pedal by changing an internal switch (or adding an external one like I did).

find a yellow one early 80's for around 100$ and you're all set.

Guitar Center has them. Axis29 got one and I thought it sounded pretty damn nice. I figured I'd pick one up as a backup. Then, I saw the posts on the switch hack and did that myself (20 minutes).

No brainer purchase at $40.

These are ONLY at Guitar Center (GC online from time to time) and the price (depending upon promotion/sales) goes back and forth between $30 and $40.

I have both the GC/MXR Classic Overdrive and the GC/MXR Classic Distortion and they are very good sounding values, IMO

** best to call local GC and see what is in stock as these come and go

I've been using this for the last 6 months.

Very easy and quick to adjust.

You can currently buy from Gear4Music at £32.73.

I've been using a Biyang OD-10 for 2 years now and it's doing me just fine.
I just keep it in the normal (TS) mode. Sounds great, I did have to stick some layers of masking tape over the LED tho to make it a little dimmer because it was blinding on a dark stage!!
I've used it to boost my amp for solo's and left on all the time, using just the guitar volume control for solo boost etc.
