Opinions vary widely with compressors - as with everything else. Never played either, but personally would probably go with the Ego Comp. Although many people are dedicated fans of the older, CS-2 comps. I personally like the option to blend in some of the uncompressed signal that newer comps (including the Ego) offer.

Wampler Ego Comp is the first compressor I actually bought. I've played more than I can count, but none did it for me enough to make the purchase. The ego comp is great, the blend really sold it for me, because even with quite a bit of squish it's so transparent. First and last comp I'll ever buy. Plus Brian Wampler is a great guy and will help you achieve what you're wanting.

Wampler makes great pedals but that comes with a price. I have the Analog Echo pedal and love it. I have a Toadworks Mr Squishy compressor pedal that works really well. It's very transparent...you won't get that highly compressed tone out of it, but you will get a very smooth even tone to anything you run through it. My 12 string sounds so much better running through it.

I have both, and the CS-2 has won the compressor spot on my pedalboard. While it's true the Ego comp has great versaility with the blend feature, the CS-2 is THE classic country comp. sound to my ears. Both are worthy pedals though, it all depends on personal taste.

My friend has a Boss compressor and he can never get a good tone with it. It just squashed his tone. I have a custom modified Ross compressor that I love. I would recommend the Wampler between those two.
