Carbon Copy should be all you need.

For a short slapback analog delay you arent gonna get much better then the Carbon Copy especially in its pricerange. Esp since you say rockabilly and country because that is short slapback which you would want an analog delay for IMO. If you really want to spend a few more bucks for about 300 bucks you can get a Strymon El Capistan which is the closest you cld get to a 1200 Echoplex in a digital box. If all you want is a good analog delay for slapback you already own one of the best ones the Carbon Copy. It all depends on what you want to use your delays for if you want more spacious delays I might say get something else but for slapback only I think you are good with the CC..

I had to replace my ancient Boss DM3 with a Carbon Copy this week. I thought it would be traumatic as I've had the Boss for the past 25 years but thus far I'm digging the CC and hope to avoid therapy.

I've owned an Aqua Puss and it does slap-back okay, but beyond that nothing but noise. Any repeats beyond the first aren't notes, they're just a click. In a straight comparison with a $20 delay there was little difference, except the price. YMMV.
Tape echo pedals are pretty cool though. If you don't mind huge pedals then the Danelectro Tube Echo is a good one and inexpensive. |

I know there are more authentic (and analog) sounding delays out there, but I have been using a Boss DD-3 for many years, playing rockabilly and classic country. I have a few different "go to" settings, and I usually am running a little bit of overdrive-sounds good to me thru my little Fender amps, plus I have the versatility to use the DD-3 for longer/multiple repeat delays for other kind of music.

The only thing that even mildly turns my head is the El Capistan. Interestingly enough, I see a lot of digital delays on country guys boards. I don't have a lot of exposure to country players... but what I see online and such, they seem to have more digital delays than the Rockabilly guys I know. I had a Boss dd-3 for awhile... digital wasn't for me. But I'm a Rockabilly and Blues guy.

i used to have an original ibanez ad9 , but i found it a little bit too muddy, especially, when you do a fast chicken picking. now i use an boss dd2 and itīs really warm sounding, but much more detailed in the single notes. i use it only for slapback around 165ms and it really sounds great.

The danecho is pretty cool for slapback. Used one for a long time.
I think the two timer is a DM2 copy. I know it's thought to be similar to an Aquapuss. I love the Aquapuss for slapback, it's just the size of the way huge stuff that gets me. The CC is supposedly an improvement on the AP. So, I think what you've got, should do what you want as well as anything short of an echoplex.

The Aqua Puss is king of country/rockabilly slap back delay IMO.
It sucks at about everything else but it KILLS for that single purpose!!! I sold the carbon copy because I could not get an excellent country type slap back out of it. It performs really well for most other normal applications though. I finally landed on the dd7 after trying a bunch of candidates. Something about that one just does everything good to excellent! |

If you're on a budget track down an old DOD FX-90. It's not a great all around analog delay, but excels for RAB slapback. An old Ibanez AD-9 or Boss DM-2 works great too. That said, once my 20+ year old Ibanez dies I'm getting an Aqua Puss.
