Next pedal, Tremolo or Delay/Echo?

Hi Folks,

Got me an OD, what next? Play mostly alt country kind of stuff. Not swimmin in funds now or I'd get both.

I have one of those Boss "double" pedals for delay. I bought it a few years back and I don't really like it because it seems to really suck tone out of my signal path.

I have one of those Boss Tremolo pedals and it is really cool. If I had to choose between then I'd take the trem pedal.

But I don't really use pedals much any more. Now I'm into just plugging my guitar straight into my amp and just putting all the amp settings right to the middle. I can't seem to beat that sound, no matter what I try or how much I spend.

I got a TC Electronic Flashback delay a couple of weeks ago, and it's a lot of fun. With so much flexibility you have to be careful not to overdo it, I like to dial in a subtle delay effect. My favorite is the Mod setting where there's a little vibrato added to the signal.

I just read a post on this forum on suggestions on a "worship" pedal board. Most recommendations for any pedal board seem to be the same.

tuner
low gain (clean boost, over drive)
high gain (distortion)
analog delay (or digital delay)

I would add reverb to the list if your amp doesn't have it or your amps reverb sucks. I haven't seen one recommendation for tremolo as a necessity, only as nice to have after you've covered the basics. It probably depends on the type of music you play and if tremolo is an integral part of the sound you are trying to get.

I've got an Maxon AD-9 that I hardly use, kinda sucks the low end out. I've got an old Demeter Tremulator that I occasionally use; no tone suck. The more I play, the more I like nothing between my guitar and amp.

Delay: H2o Liquid Chorus - or - Aqua-puss
Tremolo = Dunlop RotoVibe (JD series)

+1 on delay. CC or AP for claasic stuff, DD-7 for some classic stuff + some more features.

Is rotovibe more a vibe (univibe) style sound? And why JD series?

I think, that for tremolo in country stuff some opto-trmolo would be nice, like voodoo lab trem. And for more vibey-sound CB pareidolia.

I suggest a delay.

For tremolo, there is a pedal by Redwitch called the Medussa. It's a chorus plus tremolo. Each can be stand alone or used as a chorus/trem. I wouldn't call it a combination pedal as each have their own controls, there's a combination switch setting which you can then blend the two effects together.

Ooooh...I'm soooo green with envy.

I am going to say delay but only because the only tremolo I have ever liked is the onboard pitch shifting tremolo on my Magnatone. I have an old Ibanez DDL20 that I really like and recently added a Danelectro Reel Tape echo to my pedals and each has some really cool features.

That said, whenever I am playing clean my Maggies Vibrato is on!

for country, probably delay. I often use a quick slap for country/rockabilly. For tremolo, i bought one of the dirt cheap Danelectro CoolCat pedals. Works fine and the price was right.

Delay, delay, delay......

I love delay pedals and they are SOOOO versatile, with most good delay pedals you can get a slapback delay, a reverb like delay, longer delays with short repeats great for solos, and long pink floyd delays with long repeats. The Mxr Carbon Copy is a great place to start because it is so versatile. You can get all the delays I mentioned and MANY more with the CC. I think you would use a good delay a LOT more then a Tremelo pedal IMO. I have a few tremelo pedals and I never use them enough to put them on my boards. Like previously mentioned a good vibe pedal I will use sometimes, but still the delay is a MUST HAVE on any of my boards...

Memory Man will do it, I use a Danelectro Dan Echo that I love as well. Check out the Marshall Vibratrem, it's the pedal that has been on my board the longest for good reason.

Many pedals have come and gone through the years. The one that always stays is the boss dd3.
