Well, I use a Charlie Christian pup in combination with an SD SH4 JB most of the time (Or either of them singularly) so my guitar is loud. Both of those pickups Pick-up...

I guess I wouldn't be the best test-board for noise and comps hehe...

I gig with both of the pedals. Though I've come to find more of a home with my TC Electronics Flashback Delay as of late. I still use the Rogue comp to limit/boost my sound levels when playing so that I'm soft when I play hard and loud when I play softer.

What did you mean when you spoke about "Clipping" with other comps?
I've never experienced that...yet.

Yeah...the output from the guitar actually causes the pedal to clip the signal and the output is somewhat distorted. 2 examples are the standard Dyna Comp and the VS Comp 66...I could not use those with my guitars and maintain a true clean.

Ah okay.
That is different from the distortion you get from a comp when you turn up the sustain, correct?

well...it's not from overdriving the amp...it's from the pedal clipping the signal. Usually increasing the sustain also increases the level, which can result in overdriving the amp, if that's what you mean.

Yes...yes...that's what I meant. Thanks for clearing that up.

I disagree about the noise...I've had plenty of comps...and had complaints on excessive noise with very few...even with the sustain jacked up.
You might have gotten a bad one then. It happens. I've had numerous pedals that I've heard were noisy, but were whisper quiet for me.

I could return it and try again.

I gotta say...after playing with the comp for a week, I really like it. I often play clean with high levels of compression for effect and the noise just doesn't cut it.

So...the verdict is that it must be my unit? no one else finds this comp overly hissy? I hate to go through the bother of swapping it if it's just going to be the same result.

Playing with P90's, with the Sustain cranked to the max I have a slight amount of noise, however I haven't really played it with humbuckers yet to see if it's more the pickups than the box. That's running it off a 9v daisy chain power supply.

However, even with the noise it's usable.

Not to beat a dead horse, but at what volume are you playing? bedroom, or gig volumes?

Music123 is sending me a new one without having to return it...great service...hopefully it will be less noisy, but I'm not counting on it...I really like it otherwise.

I don't get too much effect out of mine, it's pretty subtle overall IMO. But like your non-norm noisy pedal, maybe mine is the non-norm extreme squash version.

That's funny...mine is anything but subtle...it can be, but it can get pretty squishy. Ah...chalk one up for Chinese quality control...every one is probably different.
