Probably the most over-hyped and overpriced used pedal in existence.

For the brave, you can build a clone using MadBean's PCB. Go here and scroll down to the Sunking project near the bottom.

IMO, over-hyped, and over-priced because they are currently not being built.

Don't get me wrong... the Klon is a top-notch overdrive; but it's no better then a Timmy, KOT, Fulldrive, or -name your favorite overdrive here-...

It was one of the ORIGINAL boutique overdrives, and has ALWAYS had a waiting list, therefore has always been thought of as "something unique"... it's not. It's a very good overdrive is a SEA of very good overdrives. Maybe at one time it was this "amazing best" thing, but not any more. Way too much excellent stuff being built now, imo alot better than Klon.

Most people don't even use it for an OD. They use it as a boost. Check out the pedal board threads on TGP and notice that most of them have the gain set VERY low and the volume cranked.

Probably? Without a doubt! The whole booteek pedal market is really interesting to me. Its like there is magic pixie dust sprinkled on some pedals.

So it is a Tube Screamer type pedal?

After that video I have to say, I guess there is a sucker born every minute.

Right...maybe it was special at one time...but with so many great offerings now, it's not so unique.

Most booteek pedal prices are driven by mystery and availibility. Sometimes there can be a 2 year wait on something and it seems the default thought is....well itust be good if you have to wait that long for it. Nobody seems to think...hmmm maybe this guy has a day job and cant make them fast or something like that.

In the case of the klon. I think the legend grew due in part to the fact that the makers covered the circuit in black epoxy a la dumble amps to keep their component values a secret. Again nobody defaults to: maybe they cover up the circuit to hide the fact that you are paying huge dough for a tube screamer. To each his own. People play what they like and can afford.

This is what annoys me the most it has never gone out of production. The guy who makes it just stopped using a waiting list to sell it. He has sold them direct on ebay for the past year.

It's a joke how people pay triple or quadruple the price for a pedal because they think it's out of production when half the ones on ebay are brand new. Some people are absolute suckers.

Basically it's just an overdrive with a decent buffer. It's not worth the money. I tried one and it wasn't as good as a couple of other pedals I already have.

Id like to see you post this on tgp hehe. It would be like a plague of locusts decending on you i think. That place is corksniffer paradise, hell you could pick the nose of the average member and make a bulletin board!

.
Those are all his "old boxes", he is selling them to raise money for a friend who is sick... those aren't the "new" Klons, which he has been developing for over a year. If you call Bill Finnegan, he won't sell you one and he doesn't have a wait list. The ebay klons are charity auctions. The new Klons were supposed to be out in 2010... guess that boat sailed! So, unless you want to bid on a charity auction for an old klon and pay $900 for it, the Klon is out of production. Currently.

I'm pretty sure he stopped selling them and has been working on a small box version. Although I think he's just doing it to drive interest up. How hard is it to take something from that huge box down to a smaller enclosure?

But I'm pretty sure that he's not selling direct on eBay. Do you have a link to back that up?

"What is a Klon Centaur?"

It is another pedal in a sea of pedals.

And since it does not require any further hype...lets just move on shall we?
