How many dirt pedals have you owned?
I hadn't really given this some thought until today, and then realized that in the 13 or so years I've been playing guitar, quite a few pedals have gone through my board. Currently, I've settled on two - Fulltone FD2 and OCD. But here's the full listing; I've sold most of these:
1. Boss DS-1 (I was 15 and into grunge. Sold it.) 2. SD-1 (solid OD) 3. OD-2 (again, solid OD) 4. BD-2 (good, but the FD2 is better) 5. FZ-3 (lifeless) 6. FZ-5 (better than the FZ-3, but still sucks.) 7. Vox Overdrive (horrible, don't remember the name) 8. Dunlop Fuzz Face (loved it, but didn't use it enough) 9. Danelectro Daddy-O (pretty good for the price) 10. Danelectro Fab Tone (terrible) 11. Pro Co Rat 2 (a classic, but the OCD is more dynamic) 12. Old Maestro fuzz (fun, but not usable) 13. Fulltone Fulldrive 2 (love it, main overdrive) 14. Fulltone OCD (love it, high gain stuff) 15. JHS Banana Boost (more of a treble/gain boost) 16. EH Big Muff

This is the list, as best as I can remember. The ones that are not retired or stored in the closet, are scattered, or soon to be scattered, across 3 pedal boards.
Damn, I voted wrong. Well I better go out and buy a few more dirt pedals, to make it right. Last edited by rcole_sooner; February 18th, 2011 at 12:31 AM. |

I currently own 5 but only use two at any given time. The others are used as studio
decoration. right now my pedal board has a Fuzz and an Overdrive, which are never used simultaneously.

I'm in the "20+" boat, mainly fuzz pedals. I'm probably going to sell or trade most of 'em soon since I've recently finalized my board. I'm going to save a few that I really dig, but most can go out the door. The funny thing is I don't have a single fuzz on my board! Still using my Wattson Classic Fuzz on bass, though. Will probably hold on to the Wren & Cuff Tri Pi 70, too.

I only had one drive pedal ever since I got my first electric in 1994 until... this past weekend, actually. It's the Boss OS-2. I still love the hell out of it. Good set of tonal options on that thing.
Then this weekend I got a used Way Huge Pork Loin, which I have been semi-obsessing about for a few months, since I started planning my "replace every single part on my 92/93 MIM Tele" project which I completed right after New Year's. I found out about that pedal while I was researching what parts I wanted, and heard/watched every demo I could find on the internet, and I kind of developed a pedal crush on it. I learned a used one was at the second-most-local GC to me for $89 (25 minutes away), brought a $20 off $99 coupon and bought some extra strings I needed to stock up on anyway to bring me over, and basically got it for $69 - $100 off the new price! So those are my two pedals. I've been using the OS-2 for mid-to-high gain stuff, the Pork Loin for low-to-mid gain stuff since it doesn't get super-gainy (and has that sweet clean preamp mix-in knob anyway), and use the Loin as a boost feeding the OS-2 which has been feeding the occasional urge for super-saturated "Cherub Rock" kind of tones. I'm a wee bit tempted to get a Big Muff w/ Tone Wicker, but I think I'm in good position with the two I have. |

I have sold or just given away all pedals that I am not gigging with or may possibly use for recording someday.
my current "rotating dirt lineup" is: GC/MXR Classic Distortion (with bright mod) Dano CC Transparent OD V.1 ( one hell of a versatile tool-between its Gain and EQ range, plus it gets along great with my Epi 335!) MHP (11 Gauge) "Galaxie Mod" Boss Blues Driver * Dano CC Drive V.1- I should be getting from "Chrismo" on Saturday (will be my "cheap OCD" for harder rocking stuff) There are really just 2 other pedals I am really interested in trying or owning: a Barber LTD SR (just to compare tonally with a regular LTD as I used to own one, and my Dano TOD), and perhaps a Ge Fuzz Face type fuzz....that's about it- not interested in anything I can't afford. |

I actually prefer the Dano TOD as its I just prefer its tonal flexibility and Gain range more (sold my Drive a year ago) , but am getting the Drive again this weekend, see above^^ and it will be used for harder rocking stuff (which I don't do too much of...)

I had a bunch of dirt pedals and needed $$ (still do, but that's never gonna change) and was still kind of trying out different pedals at the time. Plus I was thinking I wanted only ONE "dirt" pedal on my board, and the Dano Drive was too powerful! So I sold it, along with a few other pedals. Now I'd like to pair it up with one of my milder OD's for kicks (literally! |

I think most people on this forum would love it. Out of all of those pedals, it's the only survivor.

I'm both frightened by and exhausted at the thought of compiling a list of pedals. If you add to that the two, five, or seven (or more) of the same type that I've owned, it becomes more ridiculous. On top of that have been the cool pedals that I've been lucky enough to get a chance to try while cleaning them up, so I needed to add those, too. Then there's everything that was built from scratch. I've been really grateful to build lots of DIY designs that will never be offered as a retail product.
It would probably be easier to list the ones that I haven't had (or built). But I won't bother with that, either. I would enjoy playing with a Hot Box just for fun, and I've yet to actually own a Bixonic Expandora. I have to admit that I'm slowing down - there's just too much stuff to get to! Now that the details of the Cornish G-2 have been revealed, I'd love to try Pete's recipe. But I need another Big Muff variation like I need a hole in the head, and there are my own twists that will take priority first (as ridiculous as that sounds).
