NEED Reverb. Which one is best?

I am currently in the market for buying a new reverb pedal, and I have narrowed it down to a few, and I'm wondering specifically how they all compare to each other.

Boss Re-20 (space echo)

Boss Rv-3 (old one, not rv-5)

Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail.

I don't use spring reverb, or any short reverbs at all. I'm going for big, and intense. but I don't want it to be constantly overpowering. I want options, but Generally I want big reverb, without sounding TOO digital. Warm is what I'm thinking. The whole shoegaze, post rock, post metal thing.

I like your description of what you are looking for in your pedal.

I get it that you don't do spring, but that's exactly the kind of sound I get with my Fender '63 Reverb Reissue...

Springs are best. Digital sounds digital. :D

what I meant by spring was the slapback, short delay reverb stuff. I wish I could use a reverb unit with ACTUAL reverb, not a processed sound, but I can't afford that to say in the least.

Are you sure you understand the difference between delay and reverb? They are two totally different things. When you talk about "short" and "slapback", you're talking about delay or echo, not reverb. Reverb is either light or heavy... but there's no long and short.

no, I know the difference, I have a dd-20, dd-6, and a line 6 verbzilla. which has a time, decay, mix, and tone knob. so I kind of use the terms interchangeably on accident because of that.
does anyone know anything about the electro harmonix Cathedral?

Get a 2nd job instead of sitting here posting! I just sold my last amp with built in reverb (Blues Jr) so I'm in the same boat.

I've seen good reviews on the Hermida Reverb pedal.

Subscribing...

Yes a cavernous reverb chamber nothing beats it but who has the millions .

Oh well we can try all the verb pedals , and spring jobs.(I am on my way)

Or find a nice staircase or under a bridge.

Oh yeah, I have the RE 20 and the RV 3 and IMO the RE 20 is the winner, but they are quite different.

My dad has a cave on his property in PA. I'm wondering how the natural 'verb would sound in there.

Off topic sorry, so about them pedals...

+ 2 on the Hermida, and you wont need a second job!
However, its really more in the very natural,'doesnt sound like a pedal' camp.I think there might be better choices for huge, long and wet reverb.
Something like an old MIJ Boss RV-2 or Alesis micro verb maybe? The EH cathedral too. The cool thing about the micro verb is you can mount it on your pedal board, and mount two boss sized pedals on top of it so it really doesnt take up much room.Wish I still had mine.

You won't find a better reverb pedal, at any price, than the Boss FRV-1.

The only thing better would be a tank.

I'd definitely go with this one if I needed it.

I love the Radical Red Reverberator by Dr. Scientist. Pretty sure that's digital but it just gives you so many options. Great sound. Small footprint. I'm just not sure how much an analog reverb that's pedal based trumps digital. Now if you're talking great amp reverb or something, that's a different story. The amp I'm using now (Marshall 1974x) has no reverb and I was really missing it. Haven't been disappointed.

I hear lots of great stuff about the Malekko Spring Chicken but it's not being made right now and IMO the Chicklet just doesn't sound as good.

Just my .02.

The FRV-1 is a great pedal, but I heard it side by side with an EHX Holy Grail and the Holy Grail edged it out tonewise.

This thing seemed really cool and simple, (how I like my pedals usually), but I felt like it wouldn't be able to give me the expansive, spacey, atmospheric rever I'm looking for. I will look into a bit more though.

Hermida reverb is perfect for me. It sounds so good, I usually use it instead of in-amp reverb. The WET pedal is quite good as well, but Hermida remains my favorite.
