How much are you willing to spend? You can get a pedal but if you get a Fender Tank you will love it. Now this thing will give out some serious reverb, but if you tone it back its great. I have never tried the reissues but I have a 63 unit and I will be honest it will give that surfer reverb like no tomorrow. BUT, if you mess with it a little bit then you can get some very beautiful reverb out of it. whatever you get make sure it has a tone control so it doesnt reverb the treble. I like mine so much I dont even care about the fact that the reverb in my twin doesnt work!!!!!!!
I paid 350 for my vintage reverb unit on EPAY. Isnt the reissue going for about the same price? |

Anyhowdy, I normally like just a touch of reverb and like the shimmer a plate reverb simulation gives you. (I think a real plate reverb weighs hundreds of pounds!) My beef with a spring reverb is when you play a staccato chord and you get that "sproing!".

Sounds like my reverb use is similar to yours, and I could not be more satisfied with the Tech 21 Boost RVB. I get a lot of use out of setting the mix to 100% wet for atmospheric, ambient sounds. The tone knob lets me dial in nice warm natural reverb, or maxed out it gives a higher, almost synth-like tail. I love this pedal, I was using the EHX holy grail, but it broke within a day and I sent it back for the Tech 21 and haven't looked back.

Actually, the reverb on the Space Echo is kind of weird, but if kind of weird is what you're after, then it's the pedal for you.
That said, the Space Echo does very cool delays and if you're into weird textures and spacey ambient things, it's very cool. |

I realize I'm speaking whilst still in the "honeymoon" stage but you may be pleasantly surprised by the Fuchs Audio "Good Verbrations" Reverb pedal sold under the Plush pedal line. Andy Fuchs is well known for his meticulous amps and pedal circuits. It seems he's found a way to produce these things without having them sound processed.
I recently traded in a good sounding, popular reverb pedal to buy one of these. It doesn't look like much.......two knobs and a light..ha! But when you hear it...... The one knob (reverb) controls the amount, the second (decay) gives you the ability to tailor the 'tail' of the reverb as short or long as you like. Extremely useful, works well with overdrive, useable in front of the amp and in the loop (gigged with it last weekend) and most of all, it's beautifully rich......not cheap but well worth the money. I think there are some reviews and videos out there. If you want all those optional sounds, maybe the Dr. Scientist will work for you. I want one good reverb and the ability to completely adjust the decay and this Fuchs Plush Good Verbrations does it. It also comes in a looper version I believe but the reverb section is the same circuitry. Well sorry to be so longwinded. hope it's been a help. cheers Rick |

If you want really good ambient, shoegaze, post-rock, actually, ANY reverb sound, in a pedal, you will not find a finer pedal than the Neunaber WET reverb pedal. Not cheap ($200 from the site) but just a really great pedal, and super simple to get an awesome sound "right out of the box".
My $.02. |

I recently picked up a Digitech Hardwire RV-7
Great reverb pedal! It's got a variety of options, all of which sound very good. And even at extreme settings, I don't hear that awful, digital, metallic "tang" that I've heard with just about every other reverb pedal I've tried. It nails the surf-y spring thing, but it's a LOT more flexible than the FRV-1 - and only a few bucks more. Highly recommended.

Hermida sounds great when I am playing alone, and sounds great with a band. I like to use a little bit of delay to both liven up a dead room and also to cut through other instruments when I am soloing. I tried a Holy Grail and just hated the cheapness of the sound.
For delay, I own Digitech, Maxon, and MXR. Ranking them, Maxon is best, then MXR in a pinch, while the Digitech is too sterile.

I had an RV-3 and I didn't like it at all. Very "digital" sounding pedal IMO.
I traded it for an FRV-1, and I love the new pedal. I've compared it side by side with my Twin Reverb and it's as good or better than the Twin (the Twin might need a little tune up!) The FRV-1 gets plenty big and intense. It also has a tone knob -- that might help with the "warmth" you're seeking. When you say you don't use spring reverb, do you mean that your amp has no on-board reverb, or that you don't want to use a spring reverb-like pedal? If you're not looking for a spring reverb sound, you might not like this pedal. Still, I'd recommend you give it a listen. |

I found the wet reverb a bit too digital at shorter decay settings and like a wash behind my core sound at longer decay settings which didn't really blend in.Sounded really shoegazey set 100% wet with near 100% decay time but suffered a big volume drop.It could have done with a tone control too.
In its favour it's small and noiseless....and was miles better than the boss rv-5. I'm lusting for the eventide space but don't want to flog a guitar to pay for it!! How's the ehx cathedral for long shoegazey sounds? |

Been using Fender amps and their reverbs ,so I don't have a lot of expertise with pedals in that department, but I would think the Boss FRV-1 and the Danelectro Spring King. No experience with either but I would think they'd be pretty good.
That said, Redd Volkaert uses a EHX Holy Grail. That tells me something.
