Looking for some cheaper pedals
Hey so ive recently begun saving up to start a pedalboard at somepoint and I needed a few suggestions. Whats a good distortion/OD thats good for rhythm but also is able to carry lead well also? I was also wondering what kind of delay pedal you guys would recommend? (i was looking at the DD5 but its just not within my budget right now and its considered an almost immediate necessary pedal cause ill begin playing some gigs soon, as well as some light recording.) Any other pedal suggestions would be nice also. I primarily play alternative, "Classic" rock, and worship. (Throw in a lil bit of blues in there since im getting fairly interested in that also.) thanks for any and all help!

For low cost check out Danelectro or Behringer pedals. There are also some fairly decent low to mid cost multieffect pedals that can do quite a bit if you take the time to program them correctly. Experiment with a cheap multieffect until you know what you want then slowly move up to individual stompboxes until you're where you want to be.

I have a couple Dano pedals, although I'm not a big pedal fan...for the bucks they seem pretty decent.
Check Ebay for "used" ones...sometimes can pick up some good ones on the cheap if you're lucky.

Cheap Pedals
I recently went overdrive pedal shopping because I did not have one AT ALL and had a gig coming up the next day. Tried spendy ones tried cheap ones, tried middle of the road. What did I go home with? a Dano Cool Cat Transparent Overdrive used for $30. It can do screamin high gain (well high gain to me, certainly not metal) and it can do lighter gain rhythm stuff too.
The only reason I am not using it now is because my Tim OD came in the meantime. If you need delay, I am not sure of a *cheap* one out there. A friend of mine got a DD6 used for $65 I think. I thought that was a pretty good deal. I use an Aqua Puss, which is not cheap, but sounds pretty good. |

Guitar Center usually has a huge display of Boss pedals set up for customers to try out with either the guitar they have hanging up near it or a guitar they bring in themselves. It's a nice way to explore fairly affordable pedals with professional grade construction and tones.

+1 on the Danos, I have several on my own board, and I gig a fair amount, so don't worry too much about the plastic cases on some of them. Now about those knobs...

+1 on the Dano's
Also, take a look at the GFS line Brownie, Bluesdrive and Greenie. Seriously great tone in the $50 range. www.guitarfetish.com |

What's kind of jolted me is the sudden increase in retail prices for "cheap" pedals, like most of the Behringer stuff and I think some of the more popular Danelectro stomps.

Behringer! Seriously, I bought a delay, and a copy of a tube screamer and big muff
I loved them so much I sold all of my brand name pedals! Then I toured with an entire behringer pedal board and they still work great. I have no complaints. |

The TO800 is supposed to be one of the closest to a true TS-808 there is floating around made with current components, notably for the correct MA150 clipping diodes.
Don't have one, but if I see a long deal, I'll bag one out of curiosity. Got a trio of Behringer stomps from Amazon for $12 each last week and they are OK.

I picked up a Behringer OD-100 for an all a round pedal, it covers a lot of ground for cheap. I'd look for a used digital delay, though--the cheap ones I've tried don't sound that good, and they're pretty noisy.

I only use an overdrive and a delay, and I could afford to get any ones I want.
But after trying out different ones over the years I've now just got a delay and an OD from E-Wave. Both are super cheap but they are 'good'. Well built, true-bypass and I love the sound. They just add the effect without altering my bypassed sound at all. Google E-Wave or check on eBay. |

I own the brownie, greenie, and delay. I like them. Very durable, quiet, seem to do what they were intended for. I bought them because they were cheap .... starter pedals for my 1st board. |

There's always room for one Boss SD-1 and why not for DS-1 as well. The classic ones from Boss... Twenty years of playing (and GAS) and I always come back to those, especially SD-1. DS-2 is also good (one of Frusciante's favourites, too). You can always find second hand Bosses quite cheap. And those tanks never die...
Digitech Bad Monkey is a great affordable Tube Screamer kind of pedal. I've had some really good sounds with SD-1 and Bad Monkey together (one for rhythm, both for solo). +1 for Ibanez DE-7, it's a decent cheapish delay, a tap tempo would be nice though... |
