Delay Pedal Advice

I am looking for a second delay pedal. I currently have a Carbon Copy which I use for both slapback and medium delay (modulation on) but I’m getting lazy and don’t want to have to keep changing the settings between songs.
Think early Led Zep, 50-60s bluesy sounds, nothing too out there (although obviously I do the UFO sounds with the CC when I’m messing around!). I know Page used an Echoplex but I can’t afford one and wouldn’t want to have to drag one to gigs if I did.
I’m running into an overdriven amp so it’s got to sound good going into distortion and I use boost pedals before it to push the amp so I’m guessing analog is the way to go (although I’m OK with analog/digital hybrid, emulator stuff if it’ll work with the amp).
Should I use the CC for the slapback or for the medium delays and in each case what would you recommend as the second delay?

why not get another CC if you already have settings for it?

Going into an overdriven amp isn't an easy thing for a delay to do, mind you. You can always try your basic DD3 for the slapback effect and use the CC for longer delays.

If you were looking for a something different than another carbon copy?
I love my maxon ad-9 100% analog, but they are a little over 300 bills. I scored a couple of years ago on ebay with a the previous version in excellent condition for 150 bucks but thats a rare thing that happens.

I have my carbon copy going into a Hardwire DL-8. Great pedal on its own, but I use it most with the looper feature - can sample up to 20 seconds, overdub, and play on top of it.... great for psycho rock lead peak building...You may find that adding a second pedal makes you twiddle more than you bargained for...

I've been wanting to do this EXACTLY for some time now!

Personally, I think there's something magical about the CC's decay, so I plan to use that for the medium/long delays where I want more a spacey and drawn out effect. So that has led me to search for a "slapback only" delay.

IMHO, the analog/digital choice becomes less important for short, low-repeat delay settings, so my biggest priority was SIZE (meaning no memory man, no Aqua Puss, no DL-4). This has led me to focus squarely on the Echo Baby:

Sounds great, and is very accessible now that GC sells them. I would love to have this Echo Baby taking up very little room on my cramped board and always be there for my slapback needs, while the Carbon Copy stays for everythign else.

Boss delays are awesome. I have a Boss DD20 and it has 10 kinds of delays as well as five presets so you can instantly switch between sounds. I have been extremely impressed this far and I will buy another Boss delay pedal if and when my DD20 dies.

Why not try a BBE Two Timer...set one for slapback and one a bit longer...one pedal, two delay times and then keep the CC on board too. You'll get 3 settings in just 2 pedals.

Actually they're digital and designed to sound that way with the repeats having very little decay.

I'm still using my old Boss DM-2, but am very impressed with the Wampler Analog Echo. It's got 600 ms. of delay time and a tone control. Great sounding pedal.

I like my Carl Martin Delayla so much that I bought another one NOS in case I break the thing. It's all analog, AC powered (no battery option), and has a tap switch for tape delay type second head repeats. (not tap tempo) The odd time double repeat of the tap seems to work when I turn down the mix for a distorted amp sound... Better than my other analog delays with ordinary single repeats. I've had an Echoplex, and numerous other analog delays, and even shamefully bought one of those line 6 do everything stomp delays which worked perfectly so I sold it. I've even tried running the wet side of a delay through a compressor into a second amp hoping to smooth out the bump bump of the repeats under heavy distortion; more of a throbbing wash. Still end up using the Carl Martin. Aside from the terribly unhip name, I don't know why the Carl Martins aren't more popular. I'm also suspicious of some of the "analog" delay/ echo/ reverb pedals that are small and cheap. Paranoid that someone is trying to slip me a digital mickey. I'm still not totally satisfied with delay in general, but the CM is the closest I've found.

Just to clarify: I'm referring to the regular Delayla. Not the Delayla XL which is digital and has tap tempo as well as the second head tap.

How about a Danelectro Reel Echo that replicates the old tube echo units ( Echoplex, etc. ) ? I love mine ... that and their Dan Echo, you can't go wrong there ...
