Way Huge Pork Loin $89 at GC

They have this and the Fat Sandwich on sale for $89 each if anyone is interested. I'm not familiar with either...do they get any love?

The Pork Loin certainly does. It has a knob that allows you to blend in a clean tone, which can make for some great sounds. It gets compared a lot to the Sparkle Drive, though my sense is that it colors the tone a bit - not in a bad way. I have one, but I'm still figuring out how I want to use it. Well built (as I'm guessing you know from the Aqua Puss in your sig), and lots of options. $89 is a good deal - that's what I've seen them for used.

I've heard good things about the Fat Sandwich, but don't know as much about it.

I think it's an in-store only, limited time special. And they can't advertise the price. I haven't called a store to confirm it.

I really don't like all that internal trim pot mumbo jumbo...what a pain in the ass just to change your tone a bit.

I picked up a sparkle drive recently and am not really getting along with it, although I can tell that blending in the clean tone could be really cool for just a touch of hair, which is what I want. Anyone care to offer their opinions on this vs. the sparkle drive? For the price, even with tax, I'm tempted.

can someone explain the sonic difference between blending in the clean signal as opposed to just not turning the gain up so much? is it really that special?

Here is my board, I use both the Sparkle Drive and the Pork Loin.



For me it is a wonderful combination!! The Sparkle feeds into the Pork and I'm able to get the most incredible tones. Two sorta clean boosts each with blended gains working together.. I love it I tell ya!! I highly recommend the Pork Loin (and the Sparkle Drive).. and for $89 I think its a great deal.

I left the internal trim pots alone on the porker, the box sounds great as is.

Cool, thanks! I'll try that, I like your strategy, hadn't thought of that. Maybe I'll end up keeping them both.

Would you say the sound of the OD on the pork loin is different from that of the sparkle drive? The sparkle drive I guess is pretty much a tubescreamer, and one TS is enough for me. Thanks again for the input.

I say yes yes, definitely has a mid hump.

Best Pork loin demo I have seen is Bonamassa.

1:20 in, and this is old enough before he started getting EJ riffs stuck in his head, something I would never have expected a guy at his level to do, sorry.. had to say it.

Had mine for three months - too "phat" and thick, just no dynamics imho. I felt the bass was boosted too much to compensate for the typical TS lack of bass. It was ok as a boost. Sold it and using a GMD Luther Drive now.

I think of my Sparkle Drive as a clean boost with more "sparkle", I don't use the gain on it at all really. The Pork Loin to me is more of a tube screamer, tho softer, more blues driver like.

And again, the combo of the 2 has been my magic tone recipe for awhile now.

It's a great deal...I may have to check it out...hope I hate it. I'm really trying to stay away from using and dirt pedals and letting my amp do what it was intended for...hence the volume pedal for easy back off on the drive.

I guess I should have said before all his licks started sound like actual EJ licks. I saw on vid where he actually apologizes for how EJ what he was about to play was going to be. ;)
