Fulltone Distortion Pro problems, is there anything I can do

Just got a brand new Fulltone DP. Brought it to rehearsal and the thing worked fine for a while. Then, all sound was lost when I tried to engage the effect. A little harder attack on the strings brought the sound back for a while, then I lost it again.

Now, with a little fiddling I can get it to work properly but it still goes off randomly. Since I can't depend on it, it will lie quietly in a corner if nothing is done. E-mailed Mike to get some suggestions, but he thinks I fried it with the wrong adapter.

If it has been fried, would it work at all? If there is something wrong, could any components be replaced? Please tell me what to do. These things don't sell for nothing so I'd like to get it working properly if possible.

Did you use the wrong type of adapter?

It's brand new?

Return it and get a new one - it's under warranty.

The adapter was a 9VDC VANSON SMP1000A 009. We're on 220-230V over here. The adapter works fine with any of my other pedals.

Assuming that it still has been "fried", would it then work at all? Because this one does, but switching it on and off produces random results. Couldn't it be a faulty switch? But on the other hand, why would it react at all to input level?

I'm inclined towards using the warranty and if so I'll let you know what happened.

Thanks for all the good replies. If you have any more input, please let me know.

Mike Fuller....

He great to deal with - just contact them and get the pedal back. He'll take care of it.

I say it is the 3PDT switch.

Try clicking it on and off several times if not a hundred and see what happens.

This has happened before.

Thanks! :) Somewhere I've read that it can be charged with static electricity and that it could cause problems. I'll train my dog to do the clicking and when he's done I'll report back on any progress.

Skip the dog....

The fulltone switches are mechanical beasts. Nothing that static would affect.

Return it.

Pedal returned

i returned the pedal. It has now been repaired and sent to the US dealer that I bought it from.

The response I got:

Quote:
Luthman (the local dealer) always has all pedals in stock and orders $10,000 per month, so I do not want to hear "they didn't have it". By selling you this pedal, ____ broke their Dealer Agreement, so ____ will be paying for all the shipping this time, unfortunately. So, by saving a few dollars and buying in US, you have made it impossible to have your pedal repaired in Sweden....why should Luthman repair your pedal? They didn't make any money. The lesson here is : Only Buy gear....ANY gear, from a dealer AUTHORIZED TO SELL IN YOUR COUNTRY.
The trouble is that this pedal sells for $440 by the local dealer...this usually buys me quite a few decent pedals, none of which have ever had problems to begin with...
