Finally tried a Tubescreamer

I know it may sound odd but I've never actually played through a real Ibanez Tubescreamer. Anything I've played has either been modeled or another type of OD.

Yesterday at rehearsal and today at church a buddy let me use his Tubescreamer TS9DX which I kept on the traditional TS9 setting, gain and level at about 12:00 and tone just about 1:00. I kept the TS9 in front of my M13 which I used for delay and chorus.

I know this is common knowledge but for me it's new. This is a great pedal and there's definitely a difference between it and the modeled version. The modeled version isn't bad but the true pedal sounds fuller and really responds to dynamics and pickup changes extremely well.

Excellent with the M13 time based stuff. I know what my next purchase will be.

Are the TS9 setting on the DX and the standard TS9 a different circuit? I need to start reading up on these.

Slightly, I don't remember the exact differences but the DX uses an LED for the turbo settings, so it has some tonal differences. I have the Maxon OD9 and it sounds great. Maxon makes the Ibanez pedals, always have and probably always will.

I've gone through a ton of tubescreamers and my favourites are the 808 and the TS10. The 10 got a bit of hipness a year or so ago on HC I think, but I've had it for probably close to ten years. Lots of fun.

I park a TS9 or Maxon OD9 or my Gristle King in front of my M9 all the time. Love'em.

No major differences between the two "9's"?

I recommend the 808 reissue or Maxon 808. I'm guessing the current production TS9 reissue comes with the ****ty chip. Then I'd send it to Keeley or AM, or DIY

I love those TS's. They may differ a little but all seem to do the trick for me. The way they can become so transparent is the best part for me. Lighten up on the pick and things get nice and clear. :)

MI Audio Blues Pro into a Timmy. That's my favorite combination.
However, neither is really like a TS. Both have a little more Gain, and different Voices than a TS.

when I become a millionaire I will buy every single one of the pedals in that list, plug them all in together, crank them all, and pump that ***** out of a massive 5000watt tube amp with everything dimed.

I've got a Visual Sound Jekyll & Hyde, and the Jekyll (overdrive) side is based on the 808. It's a fantastic sounding pedal, and it's got a switch on it to put some of the bass back if you want as well making it really quite versatile. Combined with the Hyde (distortion) side it's an incredibly versatile pedal that can go from light dirt all the way to melting down marshall.

I ordered a GFS Greenie prior to trying the TSC. Should be here tomorrow. We'll see. The vids appeared to be promising but it remains to be seen (or heard).

Didn't Paul Allen do that? Or am I thinking of when Mount St Helens erupted?

Fellar here in Portland town mods the Ts9 to an 808 for 20 bucks and installs the magic JRC4558D chip, (I think that's right). Anyways, didn't cost millions and St. Helens didn't go off.....it did rumble a bit. It did make for a warmer cleaner overdrive with the Mod. I think the 808 was SRVs claim to fame or visa versa.
