I like to put a volume pedal AFTER any drives or compressors. Reason being, when you place it before those pedals, and decrease volume, you decrease the signal level to your drive box, resulting in less drive, or poor performance. It cleans up the sound, which defeats the purpose of your favorite drive box. If you want to keep your same level of dirt, but drop the volume, run the volume pedal after your dirt box. That way you just lose overall volume, not drive tone.
If it were me, I'd do it like this: Comp. Drive Volume Acoustic Sim. BBE But that's just me, YMMV.

I would at least put the compressor before the volume pedal. The drive before the volume is probably a good idea as well, although if you go volume->drive, then you can use the volume as sort of a gain control for the drive.

I'm in the same boat trying to figure out the best order.... after adding a compressor and volume pedal to my chain.
After reading and doing some research lots of folks say to run the volume pedal first then the compressor > overdrive. As mentioned above... it seems more logical to get your drive pedals in the chain first before your volume pedal. Doing it the opposite way seems like you would be intentionally decreasing the amount of gain possible. On my pedal chain the order will be.... guitar > tuner > compressor > overdrive > volume pedal > reverb > delay > amp. |

Options of where I personally would put the volume pedal in that rig. If you want it to be more or less a gain control for the drive, then put it before the drive. If you want a straight volume, put it after the drive.
