TC Electronics Nova System: Anyone Using One?
As I was researching the Line 6 M9, someone recommended that I check out the TC Electronics Nova System. Well, I did some nosing around, and the Nova System has quite the reputation.
On the surface, the Nova system looks like much more than I would need (or ever use), and from what I read, there's a learning curve, as it requires some time to become familiar with it (apparently, the manual is not so hot, either). On the other hand, Ebay has dealers that are sellnig the TC Electronics Nova System for as little as $418.99, which is not far off from the street price of $399 for the Line 6 M9. For an analog box with such advanced digital technology incorporated, that's alot of bang-for-the-buck! I'd be curious to hear some personal experiences from those who have actually used a Nova System box.

I followed the other thread you got about M9 and i was thinking about suggesting you the Nova but it's bit more expensive and in the first thread you were talking about Boss multi-fx and the Nova doesn't have the expression pedal like the boss's.
I have a friend that has the Nova and I'm thinking about moving from pedals to it but now one wants my old pedals and i'm out of money right now... But the effects on the Nova are great, the drive is very good and it works great direct to the board! |

You just did. The Nova System, of which I spoke, was listed on Ebay, although the guy lives only about 20 minutes away from me. We exchanged several emails and he was very responsive. Unfortunately for him, his auction ended without bids, but here's a link to the listing, if you're interested:
TC Electronics Nova System - $300 Good luck - if you choose to pursue it!

Plus, if you use PayPal and pay by credit card, you won't get burned. Like I said, I had several communicatoins with the Seller and he was very forthcoming and very prompt in his replies. Just sayin...

Honestly, I found the M9 to be more than I needed with the Nova System being just right. I won't ever use half of the effects in the M9 in a real world situation and most of the drive effects are complete crap; one area where the Nova System really shines compared to all of the modelers I've owned (POD, M9, Tonelab LE). The difference? An analog drive circut. The overdrive (think TS-style overdrive) and distortion (Rat or OCD) are very rich and totally usable. In a pinch, I could take the Nova System by itself to a gig and be totally covered. The learning curve for use is certainly not any harder than going deep into the effects settings on an M9 and many of the initial settings you need to make to the Nova System (line input and output) don't need to be messed with after the initial configuration. I found it very easy to navigate, change on the fly, and adjust mid set with no issues. For me and my ears, the Nova System was the answer. I urge you to check it out if your M9, Tonelab, POD, etc. isn't quite what you are looking for.

Nova System
I have the TC Helicon Nova system and love it. I understand there were a few glitches with OS lock ups in early versions, but I have never had this problem and have been using it on a fairly regular basis at church.I am considering adding a Wah/volume pedal to the setup.Liked the idea of having the necessities all in one place and that the sound is analog. In actual testing the sound is clean and straightforward. After also playing keys for a long time and having had a few more guitar modeling boxes I think that the Nova system is one of the easier menu systems I have ever used. In order to get the sound you are after you will probably want to tweak to get what you are after and in my experience you can get almost anything if you are willing to spend a few minutes with it(not days like some others).
