Country pickers Using Dyna Comp?

I'm looking for a good clean sustain/compression pedal.

Do you play country with a Dyna Comp? How do you like it?

Honestly, my second least favorite comp pedal. My least favorite being a Boss CS3. These are tone suckers. Check out a Keeley Comp or find a used Boss CS2.

I haven't played much other than the dyna comp, but I like it. It gives you that sort of subtle country "pop" to the attack that I like. As long as you don't crank it up to high, it's pretty good. Better as a subtle effect.

For 10 dollars more buy a Super Comp.It's a Dyna Comp with adjustable attack.$79.

Years ago in Guitar Player, I think, there was an article featuring effects session players use. A lot of them were in Nashville.

Almost everyone had a DynaComp. I agree with one of the other posters, it's great with just a little compression. It really cleans up picking, (and exaggerates errors), and adds a little pop.

I like 'em..slight boost, very slight compression..really fattens up clean country tones. Mine is on all the time.

a fatter tone is always nice, something I have been questing for. . .and the CS3 just don't cut it. .

I wish I knew how to find the link, but a large music store or supplier (can't remember who!) put on a demonstration / clinic where they blind tested several compressors in front of a room full of guitar player. Units tested included (IIRC) a Keeley, a vintage Dynacomp, a Boss and a newer Dynacomp. The results, again IIRC, were that most everyone preferred, in side to side comparison (the guitarist doing the testing was behind glass with the unit he was using obscured from view), the Dynacomps.
I do recall being impressed by the test and liked the tone I heard from the Dynacomps best also. Of course, I am likely biased since I've used one for a long time (with a Tele and SFDR).

80's DOD. Level at noon, comp on 9 o'clock. I like it better than my old Dyna. Just MHO. $32 on th'bay.....very spanky and twangy.

I leave the compressor on all the time as well. I read somewhere that Tom Bukovac does the same thing. He sets it so it "frames" the notes you play. That sums up what I do as well--I just never thought to put it that way.

I have been through just about everything out there. At one time Jason over at Steelbender.com asked me to write a blurb about my findings. I still own three compressors. I currently have my Maxon CP-101 on my board. I still have my old Boss C2-3(three knob) and a Keeley Comp. All of these are great IMHO.

I have a 1979 or so Dynacomp (block logo, no LED light) and leave it on all the time, set for very slight compression, added fatness and "pop". Subtle but great--you feel it more than hear it. I recently borrowed a new Dynacomp, the $69 dollar one, and hated it. It seemed to change the tone in ways I didn't like and took out the sparkle. YMMV, but I would stay away from the $69 new Dynas.

Love my Dynacomp........tried quite a few others, like it the best. Just can't justify the Keeley cost...............but some can.

I did a comparison between CS-2 and CS-3 recently and liked the CS-2 better, even after modding the CS-3.

Keep in mind Whirlwind has the new Rochester Series pedals, which includes a compressor supposedly similar to the original Dynacomp. Also, MXR has the RI series. If I wanted a compressor, I'd look at both of those.
