I would think a delay and some sort of light to medium overdrive would be next on your list. Don't ask which ones - that's a whole other 8 threads, and you can find plenty of people who have asked "which delay" or "which overdrive" by searching the forums. If you have a good guitar store near you - best thing would be to try some in person. Don't worry - you'll be buying a LOT of them in the years to come :-)

Generally speaking - most people use some sort of short, analog delay (or digital with analog sound) for a slap-back type echo and the overdrive to get just a little bit of dirt on the sound.

My own feeling about the compressor is (and many people will disagree) is that there is a lot of compression already going on in the signal chain of a guitar, pedals and amp. I've even had pickups that compress more than others. Overdrives almost always add compression, as will your amp and its speakers. So use it sparingly - a little goes a long way.

The Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive is real popular with country pickers.
I don't have one myself, but it's on my short list, and I've tried one out and love it!!

I'd do a Sparkle Drive for those driven tones and an Aqua Puss for the delay. Should be set!

If you want to keep the Boss thing going, a Boss Blues Driver would be a great addition with a Digital Delay (DD-3).

Tele into Tuner into a BBE Sonic Maximizer into a Deluxe Reverb or a Vibrolux Reverb.
Love the sparkley sound you get form this very simple combo that you can then crank into crunchy overdrivey goodness.

My not -so-secret weapon is the Danolectrfo Fish n chips eq..it can add tons of twang to your tele sound, try one out, you'll see what I mean ...It can brighten things up, boost your natural sound, add some grease, kick in a monster low end...I'm just amazed that more folks don't use one...Mine's lasted almost 5 years, it's got something that just really goes well with a tele, compared to other EQs ...can make a so-so set of pups sound boutique..I don't care how much it would cost, but they go for 20-30 bucks!

The Fish n Chips Just goes really well with a Tele's sound...my stepson's Jagstang or Strat don't really care for it too much, but my Teisco and Tele love it,,, through a solid state Peavey or Laney or Kustom, I can really get great, I mean great mid range twang and higher end stings without losing my low end definition, or making the low end sound brittle or metallic...through a Fender twin or other tube amp, I just keep the seetings almost even across the board, just a touch of the mid range or treble sliders for that boost, without changing my core sound ...I put it right at the front of the chain..... guitar>tuner>Fish n Chips>Daddy-O>Phaser>holy Grail>Tuna Melt Tremolo>Amp

And your fingers.

Here you are Flag72

The Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive:

It's popular with jazz players too because you can blend between the overdrive and clean sounds.

Example of a simple delay pedal, the aforementioned Aqua Puss:

Any decent analog delay for slap (sure, an Aqua Puss will do-so would a Carbon Copy) and a Visual Sound Open Road for OD. More natural sounding than the Sparkle Drive.

I have seen guys like Brent Mason that has every pedal known to man and I have seen guys run straight into the amp. Just depends on what your going for.

For modern country you'll need some medium to high gain for some applications. Personally I think the delay is less important unless you are doing classic country/rock-a-billy and need some slap back, but that's just me. If you use the delay sparingly it's okay but some people never turn it off.

You're on the right track...compressor, OD, for sure...use whichever brand sounds good to YOU.

I am lovin my Sparkle Drive for the country pickin with some hair on the notes! Great pedal, very transparent! Another choice, although I have not tried it is the Barber LTD SR pedal, nice low gain and no mid hump to the sound...a delay is good too, I have to get one, sold my digitech, looking at Memory toy from EHX
