the fist one was pretty nice-i want to try the new version as it has a bass boost switch for the 808 side(like the RT 66)and upgraded parts/caps inside...plus it's red now and that has to mean something, right? ;-) the old ones are fine if you want to save some dough and go used-the Hyde side is a nice rockin' OD/distortion and the 808 side was not life changing(i'm not a huge TS fan anyway) but still quite good and useful for sure...i was always wishing it had the bass boost switch and now it does.

in "the strokes" both guitar-players use one. so you can get their sound with it.
i have the route 66. it is good, but not amazing. it has a friendly, soft vintage overdrive sound. it does not sound as open as i hoped it would and in general a bit flat. i think visual sound might be an overrated pedal maker. but then again they have fair prices and sound much better than my boss-distortion. |

I tried one at Sioux Falls music and didn't like it myself. But I did pick up a Boss OD-3 from the net that I do like. It is not voiced like a TS though, it is a more full range, or transparent overdrive.

J&H
Yes,i'd agree that one might be better off with 2 seperate pedals but it is a cool concept with both in one box...even though i ended up trading mine off i did find it useful overall and am curious about the updated version.

Had one for a while
ended up selling it after a few months...again, the "heavy" side (forgot the name) was great for modern ZZ Top tones...fat and fuzzy. The TS808 side, sorta liveless, muddy...imho.

Just got it today!
I have to say I was a little apprehensive after the lukewarm reviews but I pulled the trigger anyway. All I could say is I'm completely happy with the new red model J&H.It does just about everything from mildly overdriven to full blown distortion very nicely.Sounds great through my HRDX.The only thing I can't dial in is a mild clipping tone,so I guess I'll leave my Nobels ODR in my chain to take care of that.I would definately reccomend this newer version of this pedal to anyone looking for a wide range of overdrives and distortions.
Very quiet pedal as well! |

J&H
I have a silver version J&H, & I think the key to this pedal is the ability to combine the sides...
I set both sides with a little less distortion than I would normally use, so that the Hyde side is a light breakup (where I don't really notice the bass loss so much), & the Jekyll side is nice & crunchy. Then when you combine the two, you get a nice full distortion that really pops. Hyde: Light OD Jekyl: Marshally crunch Both: Insane lead Cool pedal. Not the ultimate be-all end-all, but then again, what is? I may have to check out the red version...
