Best/ most versatile dual overdrive?

What would be (and I am asking only for opinions......what I mean by "THE BEST" is your own personal favorite and entirely subjective) dual overdrive pedal under $300?

I play a Godin LGXT, Laguna strat and beginners tele through a mesa boogie Electra Dyne. I want to be able to go from a slight crunch for chicken picking all the way to metal (using the second channel as a sustained and/or slightly compressed lead boost), in one pedal. Built-in compression would be a plus.

I really like the Visual Sound Route 66 with compression, but I don't feel the gain is high enough for me. The Keeley site says it does not mod these pedals, so what other options would there be?

I have two pedals that match the dual overdrive thing.
One is my favorite: SD Twin Tube. It sounds great with my DRRI. I just wish the Lead chanell had a little less bass. Although, I hate this pedal when using a 5E3 Tweed Deluxe.
With this amp my favorite is the Visual Sound Jekyll & Hyde. It's a 3-in-1 pedal cause you can combine the two chanells. It has a great TS-clone and a nice "Marshall-ish" distortion channel.

+1, GREAT drive pedal, but I don't think it would cover metal. Pretty much two low to med gain pedals in one enclosure that stack perfectly.

Maybe a BB +? Try to listen to clips to see if it has enough gain fro you. Folks seem to also be liking the new Wampler Triple Rec and it apprently has a lot of gain on tap.

There are many good to excellent dual overdrives around the net, but if you want the best I would choose the K.O.T from Analogman, which litterally deserves its name : King of Tone. Now every pedal has its strenghs and if your OD requires loads of compression for a singing sustain you'll find better than the Kot !

I have the Fulldrive2 Mosfet and the RT 66. Both are great.
The Rt 66 for Bluesier stuff and the FD2 for my usual Rhythm grit and the lead boost.

I have used a Mesa V-Twin pedal. Loved the sound but it was not mine (Just borrowed). Have to find used as they are not inproduction anymore.

I really want a Toadworks Death Rattle II. It has a Tweed channel, Plexi channel, and a Boost. It is also pricey. Usually found around 300.

It all depends on your style and what fits the sound you are looking for. I searched for a long time for a 2 stomper pedal that fit my sound and did not break the bank. I ended up with the FD2. It works for me.

Menatone Fish Factory

This is an boutique pedal which basically combines two of their pedals, the Red Snapper (a highly regarded overdrive) and an almost distortion overdrive - The Blue Collar.

Why is this my favorite? Simple, the Red Snapper is great, The Blue collar is different but Great too, and together you have a third Great sound. So my nomination is because you have a dual pedal with three great sounds...

I've never owned a dual overdrive since I have so many single ones I can stack, but I did borrow one for awhile: A Texas Two Step. I really liked it a lot, it had great sounds in all possible positions. It definitely made me see the value of this type of pedal.

Blackstone Appliances because I find it works well with a clean Fender amp.

HAHA! You crack me up mlweidl!

It must be badass, because in the future, it will be spelled "futere."

That thing does look very advanced. Digital and programmable interface while claiming an analogue circuit. OD on one side and Dist on the other.

A lot of the photos on the site looke like they were taken at NAMM. I'll have to stop by their booth in January and give it a test drive...

I like my ZVex SuperDuper. They don't seem to get much love around here, but I love mine.

Maxon rock & roll

Well, this pedal gets my vote! I've been using a Boss sd-2 since the mid 90's but when the opportunity came along to knab this i jumped on it.Its alot more transparent than any boss overdrive or distortion I've heard, actually very much like having a modded blues driver and a modded DS-1[with a bit less gain and compression] in one box.Its honestly nothing like the Boss SD-2.
There are 2 led's [one for each channel] so naturally i swapped one to a bright blue instead of having two reds. The footswitch just toggles between the two channels, unless you hook up an on/off switch into the side jack. Now I want a true bypass looper so i can leave it on all the time, see which channel is on,and activate it with the looper!

I think the most versatile OD I've found is the Timmy. Although it's not a dual OD. However, it stacks with just about anything, extremely well. And the EQ Section alone, is worth it's weight in gold.
For a versatile set of 2 ODs, a RAT into a Timmy will give you 4 great Tones.
1. No ODs, Amp only
2. Timmy as Low Gainer
3. RAT as High Gainer
4. RAT into Timmy for over the top Gain

Personally, I use the BYOC Rat clone, with the Mo'D Mods. Very sweet pedal!

I'd agree that the most versatile dual overdrive is probably the King of Tone. Especially if you have one with the high gain mod on the red side. It is under $300 if you are willing to wait it out, otherwise a "used" one will probably cost you 300 or more. Mine is stock and I find there is plenty of gain available but the high gain mod just adds a little more if you need it. Two completely independent channels, plus the internal switches to change the modes to clean, overdrive, or distortion. All that and a fairly small enclosure makes it pretty versatile on almost any pedal board.

Does the SuperDuper have a tone knob? That was one of the reasons I didn't care for the Fuzzfactory, no way to take down the brightness.

I may take a hit for this one, as there are a lot of great pedals listed above...

I was asking around for someone to rehouse by Dano Cool Cat Transparent OD and my Dano CC Drive into 1 pedal with 2 buttons - just saying. Problem is that I paid 70 bucks for both pedals new...it may cost that much to rehouse!

If you like the Route 66, but you're afriad it won't have enough gain, look into the Jekyll and Hyde. Same OD as the Route 66 (which is virtually indistinguishable from my vintage TS808) and the second channel is Distortion rather than compression. It will do everything from a little crunch to full out metal on that second channel. I like mine alot for when I need a little more gain on tap. Also WAY under $300.

I like the idea of 2 seperate pedals a lot more than a Dual OD thing. If I want to swap 1/2 of the equation out, no problem!

Doesn't quite fit the OP's exact requirements, and I'm actually still awaiting its arrival, but I thought this might be the right place to mention the Damage Control Liquid Blues...dual 12AX7-powered OD (well, OD plus a fixed "nuclear" boost) and opto-compressor. As I said, still don't have mine yet (it's en route), but it's on offer direct from Damage Control for $99 for another 24 hours or so, and I didn't want this deal to bypass any interested parties out there.
