I Need a good delay pedal.......
I use a Boss GT-6 sometimes, mainly for the tuner, volume pedal and mostly delays. I've gotten my pedal board assembled with the exception of the tuner and delay.
I'm thinking of maybe a DD-3 or one of the new Digitech X-Series Digidelay. I don't want a lot of whistles and bells but I do like the fact that you can set the tempo by tapping feature. I was somewhat curious about the Visual Sounds pedal as well. I think it may be a bit too limited though and is mostly a chorus pedal. Ideas? Thanks, Jerry

Maxon AD-999 - 900msec analog delay
I ordered mine from Ishabashi for $235 to my door which isn't cheap but it's a helluva deal for that pedal. It is a wonderful delay. It is very warm, true bypass, and just decays beautifully. I also have the previous model, the AD-900 which oddly enough is a 600msec analog delay. It too is wonderful. The rig I've been using for a week now is my Charvel Tele copy -> TS808 RI -> AD-900 -> AD-999 -> Pro Junior. This is a great setup. |

Dang Tim, you're quick. What I meant to say was - I'm jealous. Enjoy. Love the 900.

It depends on two things,
1- your budget. 2- your expectations....what do you want it to do? I have a H2O and it is currently not on my pedalboard. Too big of a footprint for me, But I thought the delay was AWESOME . A very analogy digital delay. My delay needs are few, a little slapback / reverby type sound with a very short delay. Often I leave it on all of the time. The H2O does boost the signal, which is an issue for some, most notably our resident pedal guru Tim B. In the past few monthes I have owned about 6 delays, And I have settled on 2.....for now....hehe. An old Ibanez AD-80 and a new Maxon AD-80. I'm kind of a purist and I really can't hang with many of the digital delays out there. I had a Boss DD? and a Guyatone MD2, got rid of them both. Although they were workable. I also bought and sold a Boss DM-2. While analog it had a nasty SPANK CLANK tweezed sound on the repeats which I found to be annoying, just like when I owned one in the 80's. I still need to try an Ibanez AD-9. And before my delay search is over I' will try a Maxon AD-9XX. If money is not an issue look at this one http://www.fulltone.com/C_S_TubeTapeEcho.asp I'm itching to try this one too http://www.t-rex-engineering.com/def...w=page&id=2325 good luck !! |

That Tube Tape Echo from FullTone just looks like the bomb, and a must have for anyone who can afford it, and needs something like that. That thing gives cream a whole new level. 8)
I know Analogman is about to release his delay, which sounds very nifty. HERE is a thread about it on his webboard. No real release date yet, but it's taken a back seat for the new version of the King of Tone he says. So much tone to build, so little tiem to build it!! Andrew I stand to gain NOTHING from any company listed above. |

Pentadil, to me the DM-2 is more of an ambient & quirky delay than is the Maxon AD-80. DM-2 has its own stamp; sort of a ghostly filtering thing in the repeats, & is to me, the King of self oscillating UFO effects in a small pedal. Maxon does the Sun Records rockabilly thing much better in my opinion, is more consistent in the repeats, but has its input much more easily overdriven, meaning it's picky with a hot signal. I A/B'ed DM-2 & Line 6 DL-4 this eve with matched settings, & the Line 666 sounded like a toy.
I'm trying to decide which of my internal organs I can sell on the black market in order to finance this crazy analog thing... http://www.toneczareffects.com/lg-pedals-echocz.htm

Boss DM-2
I'm right there with you, the DM-2 is my all-time favorite pedal. Always in my chain, I swear I can hear a difference when I take it out of the chain. For a good slapback and short delays, sounds great with pedal steel too.
