OCD cutting out?

Hi all,

My Fulltone OCD has suddenly started cutting out intermittently. When I switch it on, I get one of 3 results:1) Absolutely nothing, 2) A weak fuzzy signal, or 3) the correct signal. It'll kind of phase through them all, getting stronger and weaker, or randomly cut in and out completely. "Fiddling" with the power supply, foot switch, input/output jacks, and pots has no effect. The only thing that does seem to work is applying pressure directly to the top of the case.

I removed the case and nothing was out of place that I could see. It's marked as v1.4, dated 3-11-08.

Sound familiar to anyone? DIY fix or back to the factory?

Thanks!

VB

Well, I'd almost certainly guess that an experienced DIY'er could fix the problem themselves. As it sounds that you aren't experienced in this area, I'd say just send it back. They have a 5 year warranty, right?

Sounds like a short somewhere, or maybe a loose wire. Worst case scenario one of the components is failing and you'll need to replace it. If you have access to an audio probe, a DMM and a schematic you can probably figure it out, but debugging can be a real pain in the butt, and very time consuming under the best of circumstances.

If it's under warranty and you aren't too experienced with things then I'd just send it back. Let them deal with it.

Yeah, I can run a soldering iron well enough but I really wouldn't know the first thing about troubleshooting one of these things. Thought maybe someone else had had one of these go south on them in this particular manner and remembered the fix. Ahh well, probably back to the factory. Thanks guys.

PS - Ninja, that clip in your signature cracks me up every time I see it.

I'd contact Tsuguto at the Fulltone tech department, they are good folks to deal with and prefer that warranty repairs be handled by them. Last thing that I'd want to do is screw up a Fulltone pedal and be S.O.L. but that's my opinion. tech@fulltone.com

Sounds like the footswitch to me... I'm sure Fulltone uses decent quality switches, but they do go south occasionally. I'd try to spray some contact cleaner into the switch body, then flip it back and forth several times, to see if that's the cure.

good service w/fulltone

I had one of the switches go out in my Fulldrive II. I sent Mike Fuller an email and he said that i could either send it in to him or he'd send me a replacement switch. I opted for the switch since the pedal still worked and I was using it. A couple of days later, I got a package with 2 replacement switches no questions asked. Cant beat that.
