Boss OS-2 good 1st pedal?
Sorry if I'm all over the forum here but I just got my first pedal. A Boss OS-2.
I've been playing for about a year and was looking for starter pedals, I have a HW1 and a BJ. Several people said distortion, overdrive should be my first pedal. Well I got the combo. I need to take it back as one of the knobs is slightly bent and a bit stripped. I like it, I just would like to make sure I'm on the right track. Thanks in advance! M |

I bought a Behringer OD100 a couple years ago that's pretty much the same thing. It's versatile for a $20.00 beater pedal. I take it and my Curbside Upgrade CryBaby if I'm going to go play in the local cheesy bars.
I don't think you'll find much better for an all purpose pedal that's not boutique. The only sound it doesn't get is a Big Muff, but nothing else does, either. |

I play for a living a still use that pedal on a regular basis. While I would love to have some of the boutique pedals I can not justify paying for them. I believe most of a players tone is in their fingers and how they EQ their amp and guitar. I think you are on the right track and may find that you will hang on to that pedal.

It's a good start
Thanks Matt and O Doc.
So I think I'm good with my choice. The distortion isn't all that, as many reviews pointed out. It's a nice pedal. Been running it through BJ and it sounds great so far. Haven't been able to really crank it but the sounds I get from different settings is very nice. OD is very good, especially with the fat switch on. Matt, I'm in complete agreement with you about what can done with guitar and amp. I'm so lucky to have a Tele and a BJ! One switch, one volume knob, one tone knob on the Tele is fantastic! Add 15w of tube with bass, treb, mid, fat switch, reverb, volume and master and you have a world of possibilities! Having said that..... I'm thinking about a delay next.... Right move? |

I Like it, every time I've played one it's a nifty little thang. It's simply a DS-1 and an SD-1 joined together with a mix knob.
It'll cover a lot of ground, just as the SD-1 and DS-1 do independently. I think the OS-2 has only ever been a backbone pedal in popular music in the band Sublime. it actually has it's own tone, especially the flavor it adds to pinch harmonics.
