OD pedals that work with a 57 Tweed Twin?

I asked this question over on the Amp Owners forum but haven't had any responses there.

So, I'll repeat the question here!!

I've got a TS9 and Crowther Hotcake but neither seem to work particularly well with the 57 Twin - the TS9 and its midrange tone seems to clash with the mid focussed tone of the amp and the Hotcake always seems to sound a bit fizzy when cranked up a bit.

Neither of these pedals do it for me with this amp although they both worked fine with my old Bassman RI and DRRI.

I've looked seriously at the Lovepedal Les Lius for it's cranked tweed tones but, as yet, I haven't found any demos of that pedal through a tweed amp - the demos on Proguitarshop are using a DRRI. And, as I can't try one out without buying it and shipping it to NZ from the US I'm hesitant to invest in one just in case it doesn't work (to my ears anyway).

So, the question to all you 57 Twin owners out there is "what OD pedal do you use with the Twin to get that Stones/Black Crowes gritty tone - maybe even some Billy Gibbons tone if poss - without having your amp cranked up to ear bleeding levels?"

Del:

I've used these with my tweed twin:

Tim
Timmy
RC Booster
Bad Bob
Hermida dual boost
Durham Sex Drive

The theme here is clean boost, edging up into moderate drive. Just my opinion, but I'd rather let the tubes do the heavy lifting with the TT. The right clean boost (plus enough volume) drives it just hard enough to make that happen. The TIM is probably my favorite. In no small part because of the EQ options. Also because it's really two boosts, main clean boost, second boost for light/medium OD. That one pedal really has it all. The Hermida reverb is quite similar tonally -- and in terms of the two boost flexibility -- though it has no EQ.

The Timmy is no slouch either. It's a grittier drive sound than the TIM ... more obvious drive earlier in the gain knob turn than with the same knob on the TIM. Either one works, though you have to be more careful dialing in the timmy.

I'll second the Timmy. Truly a great Tool.

Well I've bitten the bullet and ordered a Lovepedal Les Lius as I can't demo any of the other pedals suggested here in NZ as no-one stocks them.

I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed that it responds with the Twin as well as it seems to do with the DRRI in the PGS demo vid.

And, to answer your comment mad dog, I'd love to get the tubes in the Twin to do all the hard work but even removing one of the rectifiers doesn't let me get the grind I'm looking for at even half sensible levels.

My classic rock band has recently lost 2 of the 3 guitar players and we're going to try it as a trio so I'm looking to get as wide a range of grinding tones as possible to cover the material we're doing. If it was my choice I'd be running the guitar straight into the amp with only a clean boost pedal to fatten it up as I love these tones from this amp but, in this band scenario, I need to cover a wide range of tones and I ain't about to buy another amp to do that.
