Difference between vibe and phaser

I don't get it...can someone help me out and tell me the difference between a vibe pedal and a phaser?

Great question, I hope some can answer it. They do sound different, but I'd like to know how and why.

once you've played one of each, you'll know.
it's as much a feel thing, as a sound thing.

obvious recordings:
any of the chewy stuff of VH1 is phase. aint talking bout love, etc.

any early trower (bridge of sighs is classic) is vibe.
machine gun, hendrix, vibe.

shattered, stones, pink floyd, have a cigar, phase.

Great question, an explanation of it I've heard before, though can't say how true it is, is that a phaser affects the entire tonal range, a vibe only affects the upper and lower tonal frequencies causing the original note to ring and the affected tone also like the effect is under the sound, whereas a phaser affects the entire sound meaning it sits over the sound...

as I say I cant vouch for its accuracy, it does seem a bit of a shallow answer, but also sort of rings true when you think about it, so its how I've come to seperate the two...

The are both one and the same. Both phase shifters. The difference besides different approaches mechanically is the Uni-Vibe's phase shifting is offset to mimic the Doppler effect of a Leslie speaker cabinet's rotating drum (doesn't do it that well but hey it was the best they had back then). Your garden variety phase shifter's phase shift is even through the cycle.

I've owned and played both. There's something different about the two.
A vibe 'feels' different for one thing. I can't put my finger on what's different.

Phaser swirls. Vibe has a pulse.

Very will put! I think that's it.
You really need to experiment with them......
(I'm a total sucker for that Trower vibe sound)

It depends on the phaser. I'd say a Small Stone swirls, a Phase 90 pulses and a Vibe "throbs" for the record.

I think, that difference is like between overdrive and distortion. They have same physical construction of the effect. But voicing can be very different. But some phasers sounds like vibe, and some vibe pedals does not sounds very close to classic univibe pedal.
I can say, thats for me vibe sounds like deep dark phaser with small touch of slow tremolo.

P.S. Sorry for my english)
