Analog Delay???

I'd like to have everyone's opinion is a NEW analog delay's? I know you can get delay's that aren't made by manufactures anymore, from friends and evilbay, but, I'd like to know about the NEW ones that are made nowadays.

Is the delay from Mod Tone any good?

Thanks guys,
RJ

My choice would be EHX Deluxe Memory Man. Great delay and still in production.

I don't know anything about the Mod Tone, unfortunately. I've had recent experience with the MXR Carbon Copy and CMATMODS Deeelay. The CMATMODS was ok - nice and warm, but it ate up batteries like crazy and the output of the delayed signal was never as loud as the original. Also, this isn't really an analog delay, it's a digital delay meant to sound like an analog.

The MXR CC is nice, real analog and a good price. I prefered that over the CMAT. I don't think it's true bypass, though, if you're looking for that.

Deluxe Memory Man astounds me every time I plug in my guitar. I just feel good when I look down at my board and see it there.

I own a DM-2 that I'm too nervous to put on a pedalboard that might be exposed to twitchy fingers. I'm buying a Carbon Copy - messed with them a bunch and I like it just fine.

I don't really like anything EH do, tends to sound tinny and break easy. At least that was my experience with the Memory Man and Holy Grail I had. So I stick to tape echo these days, but the MXR CC and Maxon AD seem nice traditional style analog delays.

Delay is one of those effects that you can do with having all three types of. They all sound distinctly different and have interesting quirks. Tape echos have the best oscillations and their circuits usually add quite a bit of compression and distortion. Analog delays have really nice warm sounding repeats that have a nice steady decay. Digital stuff has a cool hifi effect that keeps the repeats accurate sounding. Sometimes there is an only analog can be best, but I really think it's worth trying them all out.

IMO the Carbon Copy is a pretty good pedal for low bucks.

It's not the best analog delay, but it gets you 90% of the way there for $120 or less on the used market. Give it a try.

Just got the Analogman ARDX20 dual analog delay. A little pricey, but it is two completely adjustable delays in one box. The sound is absolutely stellar. The best sounding analog delay I have ever played. It kicked an mxr carbon copy and a maxon ad999 right off my pedal board.

Carbon Copy. MXR.

I had a Carbon Copy, BBE Two Timer and an EH Memory Boy all at the sametime. The MXR was my favorite.

The MXR is warm and quiet and very durable. Love it. I won't get rid of the Carbon Copy.

The new EH Memory Toy looks pretty nice at half the price of the MXR Carbon Copy.

I would try the Memory Toy and a Carbon Copy.

John

I give another vote for the MXR CC. The Modtone you asked about is not an analog delay, but the clips I've heard sound fairly authentic.

I got a keeley modded ad-9 a while back before the carbon copy came out. I use a dedicated buffer so I wanted true bypass. Pedal sounds pretty good for a delay, not as good as a DM-3 or DM-2, but still pretty good. I've always wanted to try a carbon copy, heard a lot of good things.

2 questions:

Do you want modulation? If so, the Carbon Copy & DMM are front runners.

Do you need longer delays times? The CC is 600ms (I think) and the DMM is only about 350ms (they claim 500 I think, but it's not.) If you want longer times, you'll ned to look into the Maxon AD-999 (my favorite, UN-modulated analog delay of ALL-TIME.)

The Malekko E300 and E600 series delays are fantastic, he also has the 616 which has modulation.

The carbon copy can get you a lot of useful healthy delays, from the obtrusive, the rhythmic, to the atmospheric.
Never had an issue with it.

The MXR Carbon Copy is the one I would choose without question.

I've owned and used the ModTone Vintage Analog Delay as well as the Electro-Harmonix Memory Toy and Memory Boy, but each time I kept coming back to the MXR Carbon Copy.

The ModTone has shorter delay time than the Carbon Copy and is nowhere near as dark sounding. The Memory Boy was cool, except for the modulation. I like spacey ethereal sounds, but the modulation on the Memory Boy was just too over the top to be of any real use for me.

I actually liked the Memory Toy better than the Memory Boy, but neither of them seem to get along with my pedal chain. Hooked up to a 1Spot along with a few other digital and analog pedals both Memory Boy and Memory Toy would made a weird siren-like whine (made worse if I used the modulation on them) unless I used separate adaptors for them. Never had any issues like that running the Carbon Copy with a 1Spot adaptor.

Frankly, I've never had any negative issues with the Carbon Copy. It's built like a tank and I really like it's dark delays and subtle modulation. It's one of the few pedals I never take off my board.

MXR Carbon Copy is a fantastic analog delay for around $150. As for the Mod Tone, it is great for the price, fantastic quality. I like the sound of the Carbon Copy better, and wanted some modulation, so I went for that one.

MXR Carbon Copy. Love it. It's the only delay I own and love it beyond words.

The slapback from it is one of my favorite sounds of all time.

The Fulltone Tube Tape Echo is probably the best delay I've ever heard. But the price is outrageous.

I liked the clip, alot . . . . . . as it was an Electric Amp MVU demo, with a bit of TTE added.

Oh and the camo pants is his uniform, he is in the Canadian Army, stationed in Manitoba, that my friend IS the real deal.

If you got the itch for tape delay but do not have the scratch for the TTE then take a look at this http://proguitarshop.com/store/delay...erdelay-p-1390. I like to get one but at $449.00 that is not going to happen.

As a side note I heard that Fulltone does not service or supply replacement tapes to people who bought a TTE used. You may want to look into that before you drop the cash.
