Compressor or Equalizer?

I you could add only one of these 2 pedals/stompboxes (no others involved),....which would it be and why?

Thanks in advance!

That's kind of like asking, Telecaster vs. Les Paul, if you could only have one, which would it be, and why...

It entirely depends on what sounds you need/want to create.

Telecaster. Duh.

I would opt for a compressor. I love the sound of very soft compression with a very low mix. It just adds a touch of something missing otherwise. So I guess my choice depends on whether the compressor has a mix knob or not... if it's a compressor without a mix knob, then I don't know.

Compressor.

If you have a good amp and a halfway decent guitar you don't need an EQ.

I've contemplating between this and a compressor.

I guess I don't have a real good amp (Behringer + Zoom effects box), but I do have a real Tele.

if you're trying to tweak your overall sound, i'd grab the eq. you can also use it for a clean/lead boost. i also use a compressor, but there are pros and cons to these things. for picking through stuff and for some leads i like using compression, but i does take away some of the dynamics in your playing. compressors are great in the right situations, but personally i see them as another effect to be enjoyed in moderation.
