Most overdrive pedals are designed to emulate the sound of an overdriven tube amp.
They will drive the tubes in a tube amp, as well, but will also make a solid state amp sound like an overdriven tube amp. Many folks prefer to use a boost pedal to drive the tubes, rather than an OD pedal. Some OD's are more transparent than others, so it depends on the pedal. For a solid state amp, your best bet for tube overdrive is gonna be a pedal that's not too transparent, such as the BOSS OD-3 or any TS-808 derivative.

If your using a solid state amp you will get diluted results as compared to a tube amp. You might want to look at distortion pedals. You claim your a noob so Im not sure if you realize but there is a difference in distortion and overdrive.
I used to have a website that explained the difference between a distortion pedal and a overdrive pedal but I lost it. Maybe someone else has it?

You can try something like the Award Sessions JD10.

True that, my Cube 30 (very similar to the 60) rocks all by itself - I leave it in the living room with the Les Paul, it's great for when you feel the need to bust out some AC/DC. And most of the amp models are definitely useable for most of the gain knob's range, if you're looking for some lighter crunch/overdrive. I particularly like the British Combo and Classic Stack at medium gain settings. That said, the JC clean channel takes pedals well so you can experiment if you don't like any of the amp models, but I rarely feel the need.
