Which compressor?

I know effects are very subjective, but I'm hoping this forum can provide a good sample of positive/negative feedback or opinions. I have an old dynacomp but I 'd like something true bypass (I have a dedicated buffer). Really I never even craved a compressor until I got a tele. Now every time I hear a country lick or some chickin pickin I realize that I must must have one...but I would like to make an informed decision on what I buy.


Anybody use a keeley or an analogman (particularly the bi-comp)?

There maybe some mods for the Dynacomp. Thats a pretty good little compressor. The Keeley modded Boss is really sweet .

True Bypass is over-rated...does it sound good? does it sound the way you want it to? do you notice a markable difference with it in your chain? An old Dyna Comp is hard to beat for what you're looking for. I have a newer one and love it...wouldn't be without it.

+1 for the Dynacomp. I've been through a CS3 (stock and modded), a dod milkbox and an orange squeezer in the past year and have settled on the dynacomp. I have it on all the time.

I think Brian Wampler's Ego Compressor is pretty nice and reasonably priced (if you sign up for his members discount) for a true-bypass, handmade pedal. I use mine with subtle settings. It's just there enough to add a little "something" How's that for specific?
In the interest of honesty, I will say that I have never quite found the advertised "no noticeable effect on the attack of the note" setting, but I've got it darn close and sometimes people hear things a little differently. I'll add that I'm not really much of a "compressor guy", and I really dig this one. I had a newer Dynacomp for a short time, but found it lacking to my ears.

None of the bootiques, but I tried what GC had in stock and ended up with Marshall's Edward the Compressor. First of all, it does just what I want - fattens things up for lead playing and boosts 'em cleanly, too. That means I'm getting 2 sounds for the price of one (and it's not very expensive, maybe $50?). I don't know if my blues sounds fit with what you're looking for. Oh, it's also got a great name (look up the pun if you don't get it).
