My initial reaction was Boss for product range and reliability, but upon further thought:

Ibanez and Paul Cochrane
. My three most stepped on pedals are my Timmy, Tubescreamer and AD-9 Analog Delay.

BBE has become a favorite in the last three years. Two Timer, Green Screamer, Sonic Stomp, Mid Bender.....good pedals.

I have to say MXR as brand that I've used over a long time and BBE as a brand that I use the most now.

My first pedal was a Phase 45 in 1977 followed by a Distortion + that same year.
+1

I've got the MXR Carbon Copy and Classic 108 Fuzz, along with the BBE Wah, Soul Vibe, and Tremor. Both brands are well-built and affordable. And both makers produce a nice spectrum of pedals.

Electro-Harmonix, because they were crazy before it was cool to make crazy pedals. Back in the 70's, when you put your guitar cord in one of those boxes, you had no idea what was going to come out.

EHX - In my opinion, the only big name company that makes truly unique effects with reasonable prices for regular working guys and gals.

General Guitar Gadgets - You have to put em together yourself but they are deadly clones, half the price of most stomps, and you can paint em up however you like.

I will also make metion of Boss, you can love em or hate em but boss pedals really stand up and they sound fine.

I'm all about bang for the buck, there may be better, but it's hard to beat BBE and MXR/Dunlop for good sound at reasonable prices. Not to mention these guys have a full line of pedals AND power supplies.
I haven't tried any, but I find the offerings from Catalinbread very interesting.

With over 12million pedal sales, they are doing something right.

Who else can state THAT type of sales figures, stomp box wise

I would have to say Keeley ( Compressor, Time Machine, Fuzz Head and Nova Wah ) in a runaway first and Line 6 in a distant second.

I've been a big fan if EHX for a long time but within the past year Fulltone has become my go-to for effects.

2 Favorite pedal builders

Mass produced ===> BOSS

Locally produced ===> Machine Head Pedals (especially the "72 Degrees")

I'd go with Boss and Fulltone as well. Boss because they're so accessible and have such a huge catalogue of past greats (DM-2/3, CE-1/2, DC-2, OD-1, etc.) and Fulltone because I've never owned a Fulltone that didn't put a smile on my face, whether it was the Fulldrive, OCD or '70.

Honorable mentions go to Barber for being such great value for awesome pedals and to EHX, who would have been in my top 2 for sure if it weren't for the ridiculous size of some of the pedals.

I'm going to go with the combo of Fulltone and EHX as well.
Great sounding pedals from the Fulltone camp (to my ears) and EHX offer a wide range of crazy sounds so one can experiment for years.

Hi Larry F, those are for turning the knobs with your foot.On the MXR micro chorus and phase 90,you can up the rate for some leslie like goodness without bending over.
on a dyna comp, distortion +,envelope filter they are utterly useless to me

Boss, for making a decent product that is capable of being modded into an incredible one...

Marshall, for making 3 VERY left of center stomps that have been hotrodded by no less than 3 of the hall of famers crowned in this thread by others:

Wampler Plextortion - hotrodded Guv'nor V1

Analogman KoT - hotrodded Bluesbreaker V1

Barber Dirty Bomb - hotrodded Shredmaster

I've actually lost count of all of the guys who've used the Guv V1 as the base of their design. The MI Audio Crunch Box comes to mind mainly because it's so recent. Dano did it with their Daddy-O back in the 90's. Heck, even the ProCo Brat used LED clippers. I wonder where they got that idea from?

And the Shredmaster circuit lies beneath many boxes as well, perhaps the most famous of which is the Visual Sound Jekyll and Hyde (it put VS on the map!). But the fact that Dave Barber saw it fit as a platform to tweak upon also shows that Marshall was REALLY onto something good.

Boss and Ibanez.

I used Boss CE3, BF2 , DD2, SD1 and Ibanez TS808, TS9 and MS10 for many years without ever having to do more than replace batteries. If the situation ever called for it, I was able to transform my Twin from Dire Straits to King Crimson in 7 taps of my foot. Fortunately the situation rarely called for it or I would have broken a leg!

For large scale prodution pedals I'd have to go with Boss
For small scale & hand made, I'd go with Fulltone & Plum Crazy.

Pure Analog Effects. Great hand built pedals for not a lot of money. 4 of the 6 pedals on my board are PAE pedals.

What is the essentiel characteristic of the Guvnor ? LED clippers ? I have those in my BYOC mighty mouse and it kills all the insects in a 100metres radius
Is the Guvnors plus we find at 30$ on eb-ay worth a try ?

The only pedals I have are Boss and Ibanez, but I really only like the Boss pedals... something about my Ibanez pedals seem cheap.

Yes - the LED's are essential. Anything else just compresses and squashes the signal too much, IMO. But after the LED's, it helps to have something to attenuate the signal a bit. In the case of the Guv'nor, the T/M/B tonestack is almost a necessity. This explains the extra filtering at the tail end of the Crunch Box, which has a single tone control.

If you can find an older Danelectro Daddy-O, they are pretty good for modding, and are decent in stock form.

thanks for the infos. What's cool with LEDs, from an aesthetic point of view, is you can stick them out of holes made in the enclosure for viewing pleasures and have an actual sign that clipping occures.
