Jamman =right choice

Next time you have that feeling of having a little extra money and DESIRE to spend it on gear ,consider the digitech jamman loop station. After wasting money on useless pedals I finally bought a useful tool for practicing, learning and creating when playing the guitar. I've only had it a few days and brother has it been interesting. The jamman is a device that allows you to record chords, back up, what have you and then it plays back continueously while the guitar guy{me} plays lead . It is a VERY useful learning tool and lots of fun. Usually $299 ,I got mine from guitar center on sale at $249 till end of this month. Oh the jamman will take up to 99 recordings on the memory card .

Go ahead and get a 2GB card.
I use them for live stuff.
You can get 6 hours on one card.
I have three filled to capacity and just opened the fourth.

i was thinking of getting the Hardwire Looper. I've never played a jamman. Are they actually practical for live use?

I don't know first hand but my friend does use his for live work. I'm not aware of any limitations especially with a 2 gb card. There a little tricky to get the hang of but not TOO tricky. Its a matter of timing !

I heard the Boss RC-20 (think that's what it's called) is easier to record with because it automatically quantizes your recordings so the layers line up perfectly. Also the Boss is stereo. HOWEVER the Digitech has USB for taking music off whereas the Boss just has an Audio Out jack. The Boss can't hold as much music either.

I'd get the Jamman if I was buying a looper.

I'm actually ordering mine this week.

I've owned one before and they're fantastic. I also had the Boss RC-2 which was very nice as well. Problem with the Boss (whether the RC-2 or the RC-20) is that they can only handle 16 minutes of memory. Also, there is no USB interface which is important to me when creating drum loops to play along with.

Note, the Jamman now shipps with a 1GB card which will be plenty for most (like 3 hours of recording)

Here is a very solid resource for the Jamman.

As for the quantize function, I believe the Jamman does it too.

After playing with a DL4 for a few hours the other day I definitely have looper GAS. I think the jamman is the way to go ;) But I need to free a baritone from the confines of a pawnshop first.

I heard Wayne Johnson at a Taylor Guitars Roadshow earlier this year. Aside from playing the entire line, He used a jam Man to lay down rythm tracks live which he then proceeded to play over. Sounded great and worked like a charm. Very impressive. Very seamless.
Wayne's guitar playing was way Kewl as well.

The RC-50 is stereo, and you can USB your patches to your computer, and visa-versa. You can also play MP3/WAV files into the unit. I would like removable storage on this unit though... maybe a plug-in.

The Jamman is cool, bought one for my 16 yo daughter last Christmas - she's a singer/songwriter - acoustic stuff. Easy to use and a great tool.

Can you pause/fast forward a loop? I was planning to purchase one of these to practice my solos over chords from jazz standards, and I think it would be a pain to have to start from the beginning everytime you had stop and do something, as one loop would be about 2 or 3 minutes. Thanks!

I was thinking of using a looper in the simplest way: record some chord changes to practice soloing over. So for me, the Boss RC-2 sounds like it's got all the features I need (nearly none!), and I'm leaning towards it because it's the cheapest. Comments?

I have both.
Or had both.
I sold the boss because I didn't like the sound when overdubbing loops.
The jamman is more expensive but IMO worth the money.

I've used the Jam-man and really like it. It belongs to our drummer who uses it to load samples and play them back. Very cool and fun device.

RC-2 has great features packed in a tiny pedal, but i though that loss of high end on the loops was noticeable. If you want to sound like a cool lo-fi tape loop maybe that is a feature and not a "bug" (though it wasn't warm and wobbly like a tape loop, just kind of dull sounding), but I just didn't like the way the box sounded in comparison to others. It was "oh, there is that sequence again, only w/o any brightness." YMMV.
