Question about George L plugs
I'm planning to buy a bunch of solderless George L plugs (.155 or .225) as I can get them at a good price (- €2 compared to Lava and Neutrik) and am looking for a plug that saves space on my home board.
My question is if they can be used with different cables than George's own (and which size plugs should I buy for that), because there's much better to be had at lower prices IMO. Thanks! |

I'm not sure I'd agree that they're ridiculously expensive. They're a niche product. If you one that wants to put together a pro-quality board and cable it up/tie wrap neatly to ensure that you won't have issues, they're an excellent choice. If you constantly mess with your board and swap pedals around, I'd actually recommend traditional cables.
Couple some George-Ls with a Pedaltrain board, a bunch of velcro and some tie-wraps....and you'll have a board that'll stand up to quite a bit of abuse. Sonically, I'm not sure I actually hear a bit of difference. BTW - I also have a 20' George-L instrument cable. I honestly can't recommend it. It's difficult to deal with as the cable is rather rigid....and the outer coating keeps it from moving around freely. Maybe I have tin ears....but I don't hear any sonic difference between this cable and some of my other decent cables. |

i have used george L and bill lawrence cable for 5 years, exclusively
imo, lawrence is cheaper and better. (ive had to repair the george L cables more frequently... and, i think the lawrence cables are slightly higher in fidellity) rand z |

I've been considering the Lawrence cables and they seem a valid option; it's only that I'm not too keen about ordering from outside the EU, as I've been hit (or screwed?) with outrageous duties a couple of times. Add high shipping rates and they are out of the game (sadly).

Nothing wrong with that and I would even prefer it, but I'm looking for small plugs and even the flat metal ones are a bit too long to my liking. Over here that seems to spell George L or Lava immediately...

Hehehe, my bad. I love Neutrik plugs with Klotz La Grange cable. Sets me back about €4 for 1m (3ft) and a nice plug; dunno what that would cost down there, but I'm very happy with both sturdiness and sound.
