Boss space echo RE-20

I'm thinking of getting a RE-20 or some other delay pedal.
But I would lke some input from RE-20 users (if there are any)
Carbon copy seems nice otherwise.

I almost bought the RE-20 and looked at the Carbon Copy which had only just launched (and wasn't freely available).

I finally pushed the button on a TCE Nova Delay which I am MORE than happy with....(although my first lasted 6 months and was replaced under warranty - no quibbles - after freezing up periodically)....great and very expressive pedal.

I reckon I would do the same again now if I had to.........although the Carbon copy is a lovely small unit if you have space issues.

Just my two shillings worth.......

I have the DD-20 Giga Delay which is a little cheaper than the RE20. Some of the features of the RE20 were ported to the DD20 plus you have the abaility to store 4 presets and whole bunch of other features.

I had a Boss RE-20 that I sold a couple of months back. Great tape echoes, wonderful ambient sounds. I only used it for it's Repeat modes as I have a separate reverb pedal that I like to use. I never owned an original Roland Space Echo, but from what I've read the Boss RE-20 is a faithful recreation. I liked it, but for my purposes I found that I could get easily by with a smaller less expensive analog delay so I sold it. These days, however, I mainly use an EHX SMMH for most of my delays. It's digital, but I like it. There are 2 somewhat negative things I'd have to say about the Boss RE-20. One, it's large size takes up a good amount of pedal space. Two, you can hear the cycling tape hum through your amp as the RE-20's LED oscillates even when the effect is turned off. Obviously more noticeable if your amp's volume is cranked up high. You can minimize the noise by turning the Echo Volume and Intensity knobs all the way down, but it's annoying having to deal with it during a gig. If you can get passed those two issues and want to experiment with some lush spacey sounds, I would highly recommend it.

The re 20 is fun I use it for some of its space ship type sounds but I would not recommend it as your only delay. There are many cheaper delay pedals that are jes fine, for instance I recently bought an old fx 90 analogue delay for 25 bucks . I think the DL 4 is a good delay to get if you want to taste a bunch of delay flavors, and I have seen these for sale used at decent prices. I have liked every delay I have ever used but I am hopeless.

Delay is a huge part of my sound and I've been searching for literally years for the Holy Grail. I have an original Roland Space Echo -bought new in 1981.
The tapes are a pain in the a$$ but the phat, warm, decaying sound CANNOT be beat. Fulltone offers a similar unit for a grand and it's really good, but for live I use the RE-20 re-issue. If you're as anal as me about delay/echo you really need to try an RE-20. For $189 nothing can touch it IMHO.
