Help With Noisy EP-3 Echoplex
I recently acquired an EP-3 Echoplex. I replaced the tape and filter caps and cleaned the tape heads, but it still gets noticeably and increasingly hissy when the echo volume is set above 3. What other components could be at fault?
Also, assuming correct polarity is observed, is there any reason I could not replace this capacitor: ![]() with this capacitor? ![]() They are the same value and even the same part number, but, physically, they're different sizes so I wanted to be sure this is OK. Sorry for the dumb question, but I'm just learning |

Well I tried something different and set the record level very high. The Echoplex is now quiet up until the echo matches my guitar in volume, but this now happens when the echo volume is set at 2, so my usable range on the echo control is now from 0-2. Regardless of the record level, if I turn the potentiometer past 2 or so it gets really noisy.
I'm planning on replacing this potentiometer, but given this information, is there anything else I should check? |
