I have a giftcard that I won at BH Video Audio, the link above, I thought the DD3 was supposed to be a good pedal, see it on a lot of folks boards, I'm just not into delay that much, my amp has a delay like reverb, which is neat.
I think the guitarist playing the 63 Spring reverb is good, but it doesn't seem to put out that much reverb, if I order it thru this store, it is a special order like lots of their stuff, I could not return it, I can return the DD3, which I'm doing tonight, it looks like an old one which has been around their store for awhile. The box is a little yellowed, but the pedal is fine, no directions either, I could play it safe and get the Boss RV5, that has a spring reverb and I have heard good samples of it, I really want the Malekko Spring Chicken, it sounds great, over at Pro guitar shop, I don't like Sweetwater for pedals, I use The Mad Ape, Pedals Plus Warehouse, The Pedalgeek, Axe and you shall receive, and ebay, but I have never bought anything there. The mom n pop store I bought this from is expecting delivery any day of the Fender/Boss pedal :
![]() I told the owner I wanted to bring the Tech 21 pedal in to do a side-by-side and he told me that that was the #1 box he wanted to compare the Fender with. He said there's no way it will top the Tech box. (I don't really see how it could but I have an open mind...) |

i checked out the tech 21 website for a soundclip. the pedal seems to be able to do some surfish stuff, but i don´t think it´s deep-dippy-trippy enough to get the dick dale vibe. but i may be wrong. the combination of booster/reverb is quite a good idea.

I got a "now available" email today from Sweetwater and dang it if I didn't go and order one.
Hope it lives up to me expectations. If it does, there'll be a Spring Chicken for sale in the Classifieds shortly. |

The only reason I didn't order one yet is I'm leaving for a 2-week vacation sat & it wouldn't arrive in time.
Can't wait to hear reviews... ESPECIALLY compare to OTHER REVERBS you have... Holy Grail, Digiverb, etc...

![]() ![]() Well I posted those to show what I used to conduct my review. This is my 1976 Fender Tube Reverb Unit. It has that magic sound these pedals are based off of. I can tell you first off, it looks great! The brown crinkle finish matches my brown Fender amps perfectly. When I put it on the top of the amp, it looked like it was supposed to be there. To conduct my review I used a 63 Brownface Bandmaster with no reverb, my 72 Pro Reverb, and my newer Hot Rod Deluxe. For uniformity, I set everything on 7 and vary the volume up and down. Obviously, it has three knobs like the originals do. I think Boss pedals with three knobs are the best Boss pedals! Like all Boss pedals, it's built very well. Well how does it sound? Fantastic. I can safely say, this will be on my pedal board. I love Fender reverb and this thing really nails it. The Mix, Dwell and Tone really capture what my vintage tube reverb does. It has all the springyness you look for. I think guys who are used to using a outboard reverb unit (surf guys come to mind) usually prefer the vintage units to pedals because of the extra tube warmth, not just because of the reverb. I think this pedal sounds great. You know when you play a Johnny Cash/Luther Perkins type of tune where you mute the low strings with the palm of your hand, that reverb spring sound you hear? This pedal does that. When you turn up the mix and dwell up past 12, you get that great deep Duane Eddy/Dick Dale 'verb. Will everyone like this pedal? Nope. You can't please everybody. But I love it! I'm very picky when it comes to reverb. If it doesn't come with reverb, I use my reverb unit if I want it. Now I'll use this. Try it and see for yourself. The only pedal I've used that comes close to this is the Marshall Reflector. I think this ones better. Johnny Isaacs

Thanks for a great review and also the pics of the tube reverb. (BTW),what is the difference between a tube reverb and spring reverb.
Have you ever played a Boss RV5, their latest reveb pedal. The best sounding reverb pedal that I have heard is the new Trex Reverb tone bug. On this link is a utube of the tone bug http://ballewsmusicco.blogspot.com/

Cool review, and it means alot that you HAVE a Fender Tube Reverb to compare it to!
I'll have to order one when I get back from vacation.
