I have a giftcard that I won at BH Video Audio, the link above, I thought the DD3 was supposed to be a good pedal, see it on a lot of folks boards, I'm just not into delay that much, my amp has a delay like reverb, which is neat.
I think the guitarist playing the 63 Spring reverb is good, but it doesn't seem to put out that much reverb, if I order it thru this store, it is a special order like lots of their stuff, I could not return it, I can return the DD3, which I'm doing tonight, it looks like an old one which has been around their store for awhile. The box is a little yellowed, but the pedal is fine, no directions either, I could play it safe and get the Boss RV5, that has a spring reverb and I have heard good samples of it, I really want the Malekko Spring Chicken, it sounds great, over at Pro guitar shop, I don't like Sweetwater for pedals, I use The Mad Ape, Pedals Plus Warehouse, The Pedalgeek, Axe and you shall receive, and ebay, but I have never bought anything there.

The mom n pop store I bought this from is expecting delivery any day of the Fender/Boss pedal :

I told the owner I wanted to bring the Tech 21 pedal in to do a side-by-side and he told me that that was the #1 box he wanted to compare the Fender with.

He said there's no way it will top the Tech box. (I don't really see how it could but I have an open mind...)

I've thought about getting a Holy Grail, but for every good review I find about it, there's a bad review saying how noisy it is.
My EH Holy Grail just crapped out and yea it sounded great but there was some noise there..... Well I think Im gonna give this a try

i checked out the tech 21 website for a soundclip. the pedal seems to be able to do some surfish stuff, but i donīt think itīs deep-dippy-trippy enough to get the dick dale vibe. but i may be wrong. the combination of booster/reverb is quite a good idea.

I got a "now available" email today from Sweetwater and dang it if I didn't go and order one.

Hope it lives up to me expectations. If it does, there'll be a Spring Chicken for sale in the Classifieds shortly.

The only reason I didn't order one yet is I'm leaving for a 2-week vacation sat & it wouldn't arrive in time.

Can't wait to hear reviews... ESPECIALLY compare to OTHER REVERBS you have... Holy Grail, Digiverb, etc...

Well I posted those to show what I used to conduct my review. This is my 1976 Fender Tube Reverb Unit. It has that magic sound these pedals are based off of.

I can tell you first off, it looks great! The brown crinkle finish matches my brown Fender amps perfectly. When I put it on the top of the amp, it looked like it was supposed to be there. To conduct my review I used a 63 Brownface Bandmaster with no reverb, my 72 Pro Reverb, and my newer Hot Rod Deluxe. For uniformity, I set everything on 7 and vary the volume up and down.

Obviously, it has three knobs like the originals do. I think Boss pedals with three knobs are the best Boss pedals! Like all Boss pedals, it's built very well. Well how does it sound? Fantastic. I can safely say, this will be on my pedal board. I love Fender reverb and this thing really nails it. The Mix, Dwell and Tone really capture what my vintage tube reverb does. It has all the springyness you look for. I think guys who are used to using a outboard reverb unit (surf guys come to mind) usually prefer the vintage units to pedals because of the extra tube warmth, not just because of the reverb. I think this pedal sounds great. You know when you play a Johnny Cash/Luther Perkins type of tune where you mute the low strings with the palm of your hand, that reverb spring sound you hear? This pedal does that. When you turn up the mix and dwell up past 12, you get that great deep Duane Eddy/Dick Dale 'verb.

Will everyone like this pedal? Nope. You can't please everybody.
But I love it! I'm very picky when it comes to reverb. If it doesn't come with reverb, I use my reverb unit if I want it. Now I'll use this. Try it and see for yourself. The only pedal I've used that comes close to this is the Marshall Reflector. I think this ones better.

Thanks for a great review and also the pics of the tube reverb. (BTW),what is the difference between a tube reverb and spring reverb.
Have you ever played a Boss RV5, their latest reveb pedal. The best sounding reverb pedal that I have heard is the new Trex Reverb tone bug.

On this link is a utube of the tone bug

Cool review, and it means alot that you HAVE a Fender Tube Reverb to compare it to!

I'll have to order one when I get back from vacation.

The Fender tube unit has tubes AND springs - the tubes drive the signal into the strings, and also provide some recovery gain after the springs.

I just got mine yesterday in NYC, played it through a twin (with the reverb off - duh) and played with the knobs. Regarding the mixer function, there is no "wet" or "dry", just off (to the left) and full on (to the right). It is very tweakable in that regard, as to how much you want. The dwell knob really expresses that surf to neil young "like a hurricane" sound extremely well. I not only walked out with one, but the guy behind the counter was sold on my critique, and put one aside for himself...

anyone need a holy grail plus?

after sending my RV-5 back to ebay and coming out with a +10 I'm liking the look of the boss fender reverb.

I want to check this puppy out. I'm looking for a warm thick reverb thang.
I like my main signal to be trebly and spikey, but delays and reverbs need to be mellow, If this puppy is mellow dwellow like a fender I'm getting one.

If you try one & don't link it, give the Digiverb a look. It can have that "mellow" quality you're looking for. And BTW, the Verbzilla DOESN'T. Holy Grail Plus... about in-between. But definitely give the Digiverb serious consideration.

Well I thought it was important to test it against the real things. And I'll tell you, it's a great pedal. If you like Fender reverb, I think you'll really like this.

OK, that is 2 positives to no negatives, if anyone gets one and does not like it, please say so and why, this is not just being cool, be honest, If I order one, I have a credit, it is a special order and I can't return it.

I'm not much of a BOSS fan, but this pedal is an exception, it sounds great!

My favorite Reverb pedal is still the Holy Stain though.

If you like the Holy Stain, be looking at the EHX Cathedral, due out this month. The FRV-1 and Cathedral are the 2 reverbs I'm going to "shootout" with my Digiverb, to end this "reverb pedal search"... then someday, I'll get a tank, and REALLY be done!

Despite the "cool factor" (hee-hee), this is an astounding pedal as I mentioned above. It does not do "hall" or "cathedral" stuff, but if you want mild to massive fender reverb, 'dis be what it is, yo'....
Very quiet pedal, and warm. I am taking my holy grail plus off my board.

"The shimmering reverb is as much a part of the classic Fender tone as the guitars & amps themselves. Now Boss & Fender have teamed up to make you a pedal that delivers classic Fender reverb to any amp. Works best when used through your amps FX loop."

I was thinking about buying one of these to use with my little Champion 600 but the little bugger doesnt have an FX Loop.

I wonder if it will still sound great going straight into the input jack...

addisj - Yes it will sound great. NONE of my amps have an effects loop. I plug my pedalboard right into the front.

A word of caution: To echo what eddie knuckles said: This sounds like a great Fender Reverb. If you're expecting it to do 800 different plates, rooms, halls and echoes, you're gonna be disappointed. That's not what this is designed to do. They make 800 different digital reverbs for all of that. I am a Fender guy and this sounds like classic Fender Reverb.

Thats good news, thanks for the info.

I used to have a Boss ME-50 and I didnt really like the reverb on that. In fact I didnt really like any of the effects on it to be honest.
Traded it in for a BB Plus (plus Ģ190!)
I love the reverb on my Blues deluxe (even though its digi) and I notice its absence when using the champ on jam nights. So yes I guess I am after a Fender reverb. The warm factor is also very appealing.
The only thing putting me off is that the pedal costs as much as my Champ did!

I have a Fender Tank reverb from the early 90's that sounds great but is a pita to transport, plug in etc. Was thinking about the Spring Chicken till this Boss unit came out, just for more portable reverb. Boss Looks more versatile , just wonder how the two pedals compare since I can't find a spring chicken around here to try

Mine just came and I got to say, I'm shocked at how good this sounds! It comes real close to the old fender outboard units. Its the pedal I've been looking for. Johnny, when you said it was better than the Marshall Reflector, I thought "well that's not saying much" cuz the reflector was not that good at spring, IMO. My Hardwire RV-7 smoked the spring verb in my reflector. I also have the Holy Grail and the RV-7 smoked that too. But this pedal is by far better than my RV-7 in the spring dept.

I have heard the old fender outboard units a lot and I know that sound and this pedal does it very well. At 12o'clock on all the knobs this pedal has a lot of verb going on! It can be set to outrageous verb, no problem!

I'm a happy camper!!

sounds OK from the demo...Nothing beats an outboard but most don't need an outboard.

I found this two days ago and I warn you, it's the worse showing of any pedal I've seen. 4:00 minutes you will never get back. You've been warned.

Now, I don't speak Japanese, but the guy could have at least played for a while.

This pedal saved my amp!

I have this 60's era Bandmaster clone with clean and tremolo channels that I've never really come to terms with. This amp has always been sterile to me although I can get a great Ted Nugent tone with my Blues Driver and ES135. With all the talk of this pedal I figured this was the perfect amp to try it with. I went down to Guitar Showcase(not GC) today and bought one.

Well I threw on the FRV-1 and it's a whole new amp with an overall warmth and life that I didn't know it could have.

The first tone I'm having fun with is EJ Strat neck => BD level-max, drive-0 => FRV-1 controls all at 10'clock => tremolo channel intensity-5 speed-3. What I get is this full tone with warmth, reverb life, then tremolo coming through on the sustain.

I was supposed to be practicing bass today, I guess that plan is shot.
