Eddie,I too have all the gear i need and vaguely seem to remember making the same promise
However........IMHO this is just too cool not to try.it looks COOL,sounds fine to me on youtube, and should be priced fairly.i've owned alot of reverbs over the years including some nice NOS'd fender outboard units.they do sound killer, but ever try playing on an outdoor festival stage with one? do you have time to suspend it in mid air ala dick dale? unless you play 100% instrumental surf or psycho-billy its hard to justify lugging a fragile stand alone unit around. [but i still want another one someday]. so my hopes and anticipation are high for the end of july. nothing will equal the real thing, not even a Radical Red hardwired spring chicken-zilla so have realistic expectations folks,ok? Me? i just want it to get in the ballpark! Last edited by czech-one-2; June 23rd, 2009 at 01:32 PM. |

that is one cool video. just showed it to my wife/drummer and she agreed that i need that reverb-pedal, if it vaguely sounds like that. the boss-guys really shot themselves in the knee with that uninspired video. i can not think that it is totally impossible to get the sound out of a stompbox. i listened to the demo of the digitech hardwire and they are already pretty close. if it comes close to the sound that my pod-farm produces with the reverb tank model, i will be happy surf-camper. i am positive, that the pedal will be a killer application for the retro-twanger. |

I used to own the Digiverb - it's pretty decent, with several good sounding settings in it.

Here's a clip of the Amplitube Fender simulation of the 63 reverb - by far the most realistic digital sim I've heard.

I use a reissue Reverb Unit and just bought a Spring Chicken for situations where the Reverb Unit is not feasible. Nothing beats the sound of the real thing but sometimes, it's just not practical, particularly on a small stage with a drummer that's got a lead foot. I'll definitely be checking this pedal out ASAP!

I got one off of "the Bay" for $100 plus shipping. It said used but it appeared to have never been opened. The sound is great, a very useful overdrive and nice trem. The reverb is great up to about 3.5 or 4 where it starts to glitch from time to time.

Well if I had not just gotten a Fender amp with Reverb (PA 100 ) I would have said that the reverb pedals they make today sound pretty good I thought my Digitech ones did until I heard my amps reverb. while the pedals maybe can do a decent job of replicating it they do not nail it. Its been since the mid 90's since I played a Fender amp with Reverb my last Fender Tube amp was a Super Reverb. Should have never traded it in but I did for a new Classic Chourus Peavey 2x12. Nice amp but I know now I should have kept the Fender got it fixed up and bought some pedals. This PA 100 I will never get rid of.

My mistake. I had been in another online discussion of this pedal that sidetracked into the idea of using the Boss FDR-1 as a reverb pedal. The FDR-1 is a great pedal but the reverb, IMO, just doesn't add all that much. It sort of craps out at about 4 on the dial.

Has anyone here played the Line 6 Verbzilla model of a 63 reverb? In my mind, the A/B to see the winner for best digital model of a tube reverb would have to be between not the Digitech and the Fender but the Fender and the Line 6. Say what you will about some of Line 6's products, but the Verbzilla is one of the best on the market for realistic sounding reverbs. I for one find the 63 sound on the Verbzilla very convincing and use it a lot (as my reverb tank is shot on one amp, and a bad tube right now on another I've yet to replace). My two cents.

Well, I'll give you one more of each, I picked up a Holy Grail a few months back and I found the reverb just dazzling. It had exactly the sound I was after. But it was so damned noisy that I wound up selling it, the hum just couldn't be ignored, tragic! I am intrigued by this pedal though, as I still have a gap on my board where a reverb should be. Looking forward to my next trip to ye olde guitar store...

It probably is a nice way to flesh out the reverb of an amp slightly but that's about it. Quite disappointing IMO because the amp that it's emulating has one of the best built-in reverbs I've ever heard.

They've done some interesting things lately. The RE-20 impresses me and remains on my board. The two Fender pedals seem pretty well done. The reverb on the Dr pedal may not be strong but the overdrive is one of the best I've ever heard. Their lower-priced multi-effects pedals, the ME-50 and its replacement the ME-70 are great bargains. I'll be very curious to see the FRV-1 in person.

I was expressing my frustration of yet another pedal purchase in my near future, and i really felt good about finally having all the tools in my arsenal that i need.
therefore.......... 'Holy crap, here we go again.' seriously this is kinda funny,i'm selling some pedals to fund the purchase of this Boss FRV-1 and I havn't really heard it yet! That is a first for me in 20+ years. Last edited by czech-one-2; July 6th, 2009 at 04:31 AM. |

In the for-what-it's-worth department, I have a '64 reverb unit. I've also listened to the demo over on Boss's website of the '63 Reverb Unit pedal. Since Boss created this demo, I assume they feel it's a fair representation of what the pedal sounds like. I think the guitarist was right when he said it gave "the flavor" of the reverb unit.
It does not sound like an actual reverb unit to me. The pedal sounds thinner, harsher, less-detailed, less rich, and less dimensional. A bit hard to explain in words, but pretty obvious if you had the actual unit and the pedal side by side. I don't think I have sensitive ears for this kind of stuff, just that the difference between the pedal and the actual reverb unit is pretty substantial from what I'm hearing in the demo. I think listening to that old, low-fidelity recording of the Chantays and then listening to the Boss demo can give you an idea of what I mean. There's just a lot more going on in the actual reverb unit even given the iffy 60's-TV-to-youtube recording quality of the Chantays. And I don't think I'm being priggy, that it has to be original and expensive to be good. One of my favorite guitars is a $70 Squier Bullet Strat. But I think more important will be when people who own a standalone Fender Reverb unit are able to A/B it with the Boss pedal version. I look forward to those reviews. |

I'm honestly not expecting a miracle,or for this little moddeling pedal to go head to head with a 6v6 equiped stand alone reverb unit. I do expect it to blow away any digital reverb pedal to date, but that is being optimistic. |

Noticeably big and warm sounding reverb on that track, if the Boss unit can get anywhere near that, they'll have a winner... Franc Robert Franc Robert

Yes, they're Tele-phobic there. Not sure why - any single coil guitar with a trem makes for a good surf machine. My main surf guitar is a Bigsby'd Tele, and it sounds very surfy with flatwounds.

It has a push-pull pot that lets you select HB or single coil mode. In single coil mode with both pickups on it sounds similar to a Jaguar.
