Tremelo pedal
Can anyone recommend a tremelo pedal, not too expensive that would have the sound of the old twin amps and supers of 1962..and also have true bypass..thanks..

Take a look at the Danelectro Cool Cat Trem. Pretty cheap and pretty good. There is an internal trim pot to boost the volume if you feel if its not loud enough.

I've been using the Guyatone VT-3 Vintage Tremolo for years and I really like it. It's quite simple and I think it provides a really nice replication of vintage tremolo. It's also around $79.

+1 on the Danelectro.
I've used (and am still using on 2 pedalboards) 2 generations of Dano trems. Best bang for the buck ever. The Cool Cats version is (finally) in a metal case, but I've played the old plastic-case Tuna Melt for years with no issues.

If you can find one second hand get the Demeter Tremulator. While they're pricey they are a fairly exact recreation of a BF Twin trem but it goes faster/shorter/deeper, etc. It's also built like a brick. Whoever gets it once you pass on won't need to replace it either.

I just got Myself the new truckstop trem from sioux guitars a small company out of Sioux city Iowa and I love it ,and yes it has true bypass and silent switching/operation +a volume control that provides an incredible boost with or without the Trem I have been messin with this thing all week and I love it ,I have been using it instead of the trem on My vibroverb! VERY HAPPY ,they are good guys to deal with and affordable (and they look cool too)I think they are gonna catch on BIG,I dont know if their website is up yet but You can find them on Myspace

awright now, fess up... who makes it and where do you get it from?
ooohhh..... I see it's a DIY. So you've got the speed on the footswitch? What is it, an always-on, tap-speed, tremolo?

Still in love with my Cool Cat. Not a moment's regret. Except that I use it so often that I've left it hooked up and turned on twice, killing the battery. As if that freakin' light wasn't bright enough to remind me...

I like my Boss TR-2. I tried a few more expensive trems and came back to this one. It does the job quite well for my needs.
Sorry - missed the TRUE BYPASS part... In that case, the Demeter Tremulator would be my next choice.

Are you talking about the TR-2? No mention of a bias pot on Boss' site...

Fulltone Supa-Trem is cheap considering how good it is- which is (IMHO) about 10 times better than anything else out there.

+1 on the demeter, I have one, I just hate the power jack supplied on it so I removed it and removed the Demeter name as vengeance, but go figure, I'm recommending it here. Actually, I change my mind, it sucks.

Keeley Modded TR-2's are great. No volume drop, full, rich sound, and very clean. I love mine. Got it brand new for $145.

I'd have a BYOC myself, if it went slow enough for my tastes (unfortunately it doesn't.)

I'd probably opt for a Fulltone if I wanted either Vibe or Trem. I find getting a decent sounding trem pedal is incredibly difficult. So much so I just opted to buy amps with good trems on them.
Amps will always have the best trem/vib circuits, nothing comes close to those Maggie and Brown/Blonde circuits. Those rare mechanical tremolos also sound very musical. I'd have a pop at that if I lived the US. |

For vintage Fender Trem sounds, I can't find a pedal better than my vintage Diaz Tremodillo. They're not too expensive, but might be a bit hard to find. Make sure you get the older ones. The new ones just aren't as nice-sounding or well-built.

I'm not 100% sure if there is a bias pot as I haven't opened mine up. But I do know that the newest revision of the TR-2 has taken care of the dreaded volume drop issue. I got mine new in October of 2008 and it has the update according to the Boss forum. I'm not a fan of Boss, but I sure like the new TR-2 even though it's not true bypass.

My favorite tremolo pedal of all time is the old Electro Harmonix Pulsar in the big box. Vintage sound with a wide range of adjustment. You can find them on ebay from time to time for decent money.

+1 on the Duncan Shape Shifter. I bought one just to replace the Tremelo on my sold Peavey Delta Blues, and, as well as doing that perfectly, it does so much more if you want it to. Can do Planet Telex by Radiohead, and How Soon is Now by The Smiths using the Tap Tempo, and setting the waveform. Very, very clever pedal.

Totally missed those knobs on the side! They're hard to see. Good catch!

Connected as a mono pedal, the Stereo Pulsar is exactly the same as the Electro-Harmonix Pulsar that we currently manufactur: a tremolo pedal that allows significant control over the shape of modulating waveform. Hook up the Stereo Pulsar in stereo (each output to a separate amp/mixer channel) and you have a panner pedal that will send your instrument back and forth between two amps with the same control over waveform shape. So while one amp is fading up in volume, the other will be fading down in volume or even more dramatic: while one amp is on, the other is off. http://www.ehx.com/products/stereo-pulsar/instructions |

T.C. Electronic Vintage Trem is what I love+play a lot. Used to be a fair price, but when they discontinued prices went up. Basically its the sam as the TRex Tremster, just in another colour

+1 The owner just brought over a bunch of his pedals and I ended up with the trem and a villa ave. They are all heavy duty with a powder coat finish and they sound great. I prefer the Sioux Trem over my DRRI's. Find them here. http://www.myspace.com/siouxguitars |

Marshall Vibratrem - I'm pretty sure they are supposed to be true bypass. Built like a tank, great variety of tones to be had and pretty cheap as well.

Outlaw Supply Big Blue Tremolo, from pureanalogeffects.com
I've had one for about a year, and it's a fantastic pedal! The Big Blue has a separate clean boost as well, and you can footswitch between boost and tremolo to just tremolo if you want too. Having a clean boost outside the pedal lets you have on the fly changes (instead of a trimpot) for different guitars, amps, whatever. The trem circuit itself is very versatile, from a subtle throb to full out chop. It is true bypass, Carling switches and all! Construction is great (the trem PCB looks like it's from General Guitar Gadgets, so it may just be that circuit re-housed and re-branded), and Sandy Philips is a great guy to deal with. I think the list on this when I bought it was $129, but the decals bubbled when he baked the enamel, so I ended up walking with a sweet discount! I've read that's happened to others too, so you may get off with a cheaper pedal. If not, $129 is still a great price. Good luck with the hunt!
