Danelectro Cool Cat Transparent Overdrive
This pedal is talked about a lot, so I got one. Who else likes these? Great for a clean amp when you need a little bit of grit. I think it works great for blues and country stuff. I also have a modded Blues Driver, which is quite similar in tone to this one.
I have this video in High Definition on youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gd1HL1xNTtg

I have the Drive since earlier, but I think I like the T.OD better so far.

Thank you for your reviews. I really enjoy your playing, and you inspire me to get a little more soulful in my approaches to lead playing. I thing the pedals will help coax that out a little bit as well.

By the way, I already own a Boss Blues Driver; would you say it's worth getting the Dano TransOD too? Are they really close in tone? I know from demos and reviews that the Dano pedal is good, but I don't know if it'll sound much different than my Blues Driver. thanks |

I just got both the Drive and the Transparent Drive based on the reviews at this site. I do like them both, and for the price they are both keepers. I'll be using the CTO-1 as a semi-clean boost, and into my Boss OD-3 for screaming lead sound that is very touch-sensitive. I love the "chirp" quality it adds to single-notes, both by itself and into the OD3. The CO-1 I'll probably keep off the board to be used by itself on blues jams, as it's a decent stand-alone drive box. However, I'm hesitant to add to the hype here. They're both good, but they are not in the same league as the Xotic BB plus or the Fulltone Fulldrive. The CTO, for example, is really not "transparent" in that it definitely colors the tone. It takes a bit of the bass away, and slightly boosts the upper mids. I definitely like the effect, but it's not truly transparent. The Boss OD3 has a flatter frequency response.

I have been playing Blues Drivers for years, both the stock and Keeley mod versions. In gigging situations, I find that the CTO is much more transparent (sounds like my guitar "straight") than the BD-2. For me, not only is the CTO tonally more transparent, it is also less "fuzzy" and more "drivey", if that makes any sense. As for the OD-3, I find that they don't clean up enough for my style of playing. For me, they always sound too fuzzy, even at low gain settings.
I run an RC Booster in front of my CTO and it is magic for my ears. I also sometimes stack the CTO with a Sparkle Drive for a more mid-humpy bluesy kind of sound or stack it in front of a BD-2. By the way, my comments are based on playing an AV52RI through a '67 BF Super Reverb. When I play through a tweed amp, things are a little different, of course. I love the Cool Cats that I have, but now I'm wondering if a Timmy might be in my future. Eddy |

Thanks for the info guys, it's much, much appreciated.
I'm definitely going to get the TransOD. It's cheap enough so why not? It sounds like it'll add some different tones to the Bluesdriver and other pedals I have now. Thanks. |

Dano has redesigned the TO pedal. There's a post over at TGP about it.
Originals are now going for $500... ...... Just kidding!

Well I ordered a Transparent Overdrive and it should arrive at my house next week. I can't wait, after seeing this demo and others, and hearing so many good reviews. I picked up a CC Drive on Tuesday and I really, really like it. It thickens up my Strat's tone so much, it's perfect for what I wanted. Sounds like such a nice, full overdrive. I couldn't be happier.

And there's nothing IMO cheap about the Danelectro Cool Cat pedals. |

Shame on me..I own a Fulltone O.C.D. and I've just gotten the Danelectro transparent O.D. and I think I'm finding it better than the O.C.d. in terms of versatility..
