Favourite tube overdrive?
Got an Ibanez Tube King (the new red one) and it sounds good for the Marshall/ Boogie type distortion. Somehow, it does feel and sound very tubey.
Got me thinking - what's your absolute favourite tube overdrive pedal (one with a tube or tubes inside them)? Those who have tried the Zendrive 2. Please chime in. |

Seymour Duncan Twin Tube SFX-03.
Great for blues and classic rock. Works as an overdrive AND a tube preamp. Very versatile.

My friend has a Vox Big Ben, wich sounds awesome.
I dont use a distortionbox with a tube in it though, cause my solid state boxes do the job very good in front of my tube amp. just my opinion |

Matchless Hot Box.
One of the few tube pedals that has the tubes running at actual good plate voltages. I think that I just found out that Bad Cat is making an improved version. I've got an old Butler pedal that's cool, but one needs to keep in mind that at low plate voltage it's a different animal from an actual tube preamp stage in an amplifier. If you think that plate voltage doesn't make a difference, A/B your low voltage tube OD against a Hot Box. It will change your mind, IMO.

I'm using a Dean Markley Overlord I've had since the '70s. The tube was changed out years ago, can't remember what's in it but it sure sounds good.
It's incredibly versatile, but at price...way too many knobs to turn. Martin E. Christina Herr & Wild Frontier |

I tried a few, including the ToneBone Classic, which I liked for a while. Now I have a ZenDrive2 and feel like I have arrived home. I use my Tele, the ZenDrive, Victoria 35310 amp. The ZenDrive allows individual strings to be heard at strong levels of distortion, responds extremely well to strength of the pick attack, and has a smooth response, pitch-wise.

my vote is for the extremely rare and coveted Akai Shred-O-Matic D1, for the simple reason that i happen to own one and just the name itself is so cool
