Boss GT6 vs. Boss stompbox
I'm getting ready to either buy some Boss stompboxes or a Boss GT6. I know what the stompboxes can do and what they sound like. Can anyone give the lowdown on the GT6?
Thanks |

I use one for FX
I have one that I use for primarily for delays and modulation FX and volume pedal. It does also have some good OD and DS effects but it does take some tweaking and getting used to. I do, however, run a pedal board through the FX loop of my GT-6 for my ODs and DS. It really works out well.
I have set out a couple of different times to replace the GT-6 with pedals but I always end up going back to it. I don't use a lot of different effects a lot of the time and it has everything built in and if I need something it's there. The main thing you have to do is get your levels correct and then you can get the GT-6 to where it does not color your sound at all. Then you go back and add in your FX. I believe that alot of the complaints that I have seen have been a result of improper levels. A good place to learn a ton about the GT-6 is BossGTCentral. Most people on this forum are going to tell you to get individual effects and I understand that too. However, you can get alot of good out of the GT-6 if you learn to use it. Good luck, Jerry

The GT-6 can produce some excellent sounds if you (here it comes...) read the manual and put a little effort into it.
One limitation it does have, however, is limiting you to one effect each from two banks per patch. I have never really found this to be a problem, because they have split them up fairly well, and you can also use reverb, wah, distortion, delay, EQ, and chorus concurently with the effects from FX1 & FX2. An issue might arise if you wanted to, say, use compression and tremolo, since they are both in FX1. The amp/cabinet sims are alright, but not exceptional. I generally just leave it on the clean Twin model if I'm using it. One cool feature is that you can assign pretty much any effect parameters to the expression pedal. I really like mine, but my use is mostly restricted to running it into my PC and noodling endlessly... |
