Fulldrive 2 Mosfet vs older Fulldrive 2 vs OCD V4
I need to purchase a drive pedal for a recording project i'm doing and I want to try one of the Fulltone pedals.
It's all Tele's through a DRRI or a Bassman RI. Just need an extra gear for a few tunes. No fuzztone-type sounds. If price wasn't a factor, which pedal would you choose? A. The newest Fulldrive 2 Mosfet B. A pre-2005 old-style powder blue Fulldrive 2 C. The newest OCD V4 Hoping someone here would have experience with all 3 Or is there something else I should consider in the $150 or under price range? Thanks in advance for your opinions |

Well I have the exact set up that you just described and I use a FullDrive 2 Mofset. It is a versatile pedal and you can easily switch the Mofset function on or off. I am not sure but I think the difference between the to FD2 is the extra toggle switches replacing a pull pot(?). IIRC, of course someone will chime in if I am incorrect but I really do not think there is that much difference soundwise between the 2.
You really can not go wrong with this pedal, sounds even better with a compressor after it. You can also look into the the Award-Sessions JD10 which can be used as a pedal or as a DI right into the console or PA, its about $189.00 new but for that price the flexibility alone is worth the money. No experience with OCD v.4.

+1 on the FD2 Mosfet.
The versatility of this pedal is incredible. You can switch between Mosfet and Standard operation with the mini-toggle. I prefer the Mosfet, it seems a little smoother sounding to me. The other mini-toggle will switch you between "Vintage"- supposedly like the original Full Drive, "FM" - Flat Mid mode, or "Comp Cut" which is basically a KILLER clean boost. My brother has an older FD2, and uses it with a THD Tweed Bassman clone. He loves it, and it sounds great, but he wants the newer Full Drive too. Again, no exp. with the V4.

I'm a little late posting here, I see. I have a Full Drive II MOSFET and an OCD V3. I really like them both but if I had to pick one it would be the FD II MOSFET because of its greater versatility (it also sounds superb). In my setup, I set the FD II MOSFET for rhythm crunch and milder overdrive and the OCD for heavier overdrive. When I want to really go over the top (for example, the solo in "Time" by Pink Floyd), I'll run the FD II MOSFET into the OCD--the sustain (using a Strat) is unreal with that setup.

I've used the pre 2005 Fulldrive and now the Mosfet, I've also played with an original Fulldrive. The original Fulldrive was a mids machine, and is a GREAT sound for slide guitar, or really any overdrive guitar tone.
I've always used the Fulldrive as a slide pedal, because I like the sounds of those classic blues slide players of years past. If it makes any difference to you, Bo Ramsey, who is a pretty in demand studio and touring guitarist, uses a Fulldrive, and his tone is perfect. |

Hello,
I have an OCD and use it with a Tweed Deluxe and DRRI. I like it because I can get the amp's crunch/overdrive tones at lower volumes using the OCD. It sounds "amp-like". I never was a friend of tubescreamers or similar pedals. Thes somehow don't work for me. Greetings, Klaus |
