I just crank my DRRI to around 6 and roll the Bass to about 3 and Treble to around 7 or 8 and turn down the revereb to around 2, plug in my Gretsch 6120 and switch to the back pick up. I know Johnny Rivers played a Gibson ES-335 but I don't think he used any thing but an amp in those days.

Its a great amp for a PCB construction. Its loud enough for gigs and the stock speaker is just fine. I used to gig with a country band I was in and it holds its own against a drummer even un-miked. Personally I swaped the tubes and rebiased the amp a little hotter which improved the sound a lot. Fender likes to bias the amps a little cold at the factory.

You have a pretty good amp as it is, why not just get a Fender Reverb unit instead of a new amp?
