My fave is a Vox Clyde McCoy- but I haven't tried the Fulltone, which I suspect would be pretty awesome.

...I like the...
...Budda wah-wah...I ABC'd a Fulltone,Teese, and a Budda...I asked a store owner, who felt the Clyde was his most fave boutique wah,to tell me what was the best...I said don't look, and tell me which is which...he couldn't,so I opted for going for the least expensive model (but I'd had the Budda for a while already)...the Bud Wah works wonderfully...

I swear by this one...
the RMC Picture Wah (http://www.realmccoycustom.com/RMCPW.htm), although mine is an early one in a grey case. I've tried alot, but this one is a perfect fit for me, and none better out there (IMHO, of course)!

20 year anniversary addition Cry baby modded with true bypass and I replaced the 33K resistor in parallel with the inductor with a 47K resistor instead of the recommended 68K. It sounds much more vocal sounding than stock. I think that SRV also had this mod. I got the idea from here: http://www.diyguitarist.com/

depends...
for cleaner stuff i would probably say a full-sounding newer style wah like a clyde deluxe or one of the modern style teese wahs or a budda...
i personally like a wah with some drive after it so i really dig my '66 "top badge" crybaby. if i were shopping for one with that type of sound i'd say search ebay for "jen wah" and buy one that's in good shape and put a true bypass switch in it. shouldn't cost any more than the modern stuff and you would have the sound most of those modern companies are trying to copy anyway Last edited by Rusty; September 5th, 2008 at 10:05 AM. |

My tele seems to like the Digitech EX-7 wah models. I was surprised at how nice this pedal sounds with my guitar.

HBE Medicine Bawl wah sounded good, as did Budda Bud Wah (as mentioned above).
I found the best sounding wahs to be ones with user-tweakable internal pots to adjust sweep and gain. A lot of stock wahs sound too harsh to my ears with Tele when pressed all the way down.

Cry Baby - I've got two, an ancient Thomas Organ I bought in New Orleans at Werleins Music and a fairly new one that's about 10 years old but has less than 100 hours on it.
I only use 'em "Ronson Style".

Teese RMC-1. The oldest pedal on my board (well, it actually sits on the floor) so it must be doing something right.

Had an old standard issue Dunlop Cry Baby.. hardly ever used it. Just played a new Morley Bad Horsie 2, and I just had to have it.
It does everything a wah pedal's supposed to do and nothing that it doesn't.

I got a Vox V847 3 years ago and I have been a Strat player all my life. I still love Strats, don't get me wrong, but I got my Thin Skin '62 Tele Custom a month ago and I am just discovering on how simple, yet effective it can be. I liked Vox Wah on my Strats, but with a Tele and the pickups in bridge position... this is where it really shines. and with some overdrive (BD-2) i'm loving it.

Zvex Wah Probe. No moving parts. Just a wah effect controlled by your foot working a theramin. I had one for years and foolishly sold it during a moment of downsizing insanity. I went on a big wah search earlier this year, and played many of the top wahs available.
I ended up with another Wah Probe. I can't even relate to other wahs at this point.

Just got a Clyde Deluxe (Fulltone) and it's great - the three tones are all musical and the gain control is a cool add on. Very versatile and built like a tank.

+1 on the BYOC. For any non believers, check the YouTube vid. I think its the most versatile wah I've owned and I've owned a good few of the mass-produced-by-evil-robots-who-will-rise-against-mankind-one-day type of wah.

I have an old cry baby. BTW just ordered my sparkle drive for my baja, and saw this on the voodoo labs site. If you dig into the info, they also have a sound sample using a tele..
I must get this when I get the coin - sounds fab... http://www.voodoolab.com/wahzoo.htm

How do they compare? I haven't used the Fulltone enough yet, although first impressions are that it's a little smoother and the internal trim pot (for range and gain) is a nice touch.

I had some good tones with a Dunlop Jimi Hendrix JH-1, but I saw two different touring pros in the last week or so that both used a Morley Bad Horsie II, and they sounded pretty good with their tele's.

I tried a few different wahs, but the one I like the most is the Dunlop 535Q. You get to tweak the sweep, range, and gain, so at any given moment I can get the best wah sound for the situation. I set the range higher when I'm using humbuckers and lower when using single coils.

Teese RMC3. You can make it sound like pretty much any wah you like and Geoffrey Teese is even better than all of good things you hear about him. That guy is one in a million, which is also reflected in his products. I can't imagine going anywhere else for a wah now. If he was British I'd lobby for him to be knighted!
