Bad Monkey settings
I did a search but did not find much.
Would anybody care to share their Bad Monkey knob settings with me? For example: ![]() In this picture the one on the left is 12, 11, 9, 1 and the one on the right is 1, 3, 3, 12 (using an analog clock face as a reference-remember those?) What have you settled on for the Bad Monkey setting you are using? Thanks in advance, L_N_A

For the time being: 12, 4, 4, 11. This is for light gain, leaving the pedal on all the time (not switching it on and off to boost solos, etc.)
Im using a Music Man amp with a solid state preamp, so the level control setting is less important (though I have yet to really crank the amp with the Bad Monkey to find out what that boost is really gonna do). With both the low and high controls set at 4:00, Im getting a nice transparent sound, just a little fatter than my amp without the pedal on. I've been playing with the amount of gain, but it's usually set somewhere around 11:00. Lost n Austin, Do you actually use two Bad Monkeys? Instead of just showing the settings, it would be interesting to know what you're using the pedals for with those settings. |

No, I don't use two Bad Monkeys. I just bought a second one because I know a good deal when I spot one. I think I paid $20.00 for the second one because the 9-volt battery pigtail was damaged. A five minute repair.
I have sort of toyed with the idea of running them in series, one into the other to see what weird noises I could make. I don't play professionally, or very well, so I was just looking for some advice on what others had settled in on as far as settings for their style of play. Thanks for the response. L_N_A

Well, comparing setting doesn't really work - too much depends on the guitar and the pickups the pedal is used with (high/low output? bright/warm tone?, etc.), as well as on the amp the pedal is going into (tube/solid state? Marshall/Vox/BF Fender/tweed Fender type tone? completely clean/on the edge/overdriven? closed/opne-back speaker cab? British/Celestion-type speakers, or American/Jensen-type? etc.), and most of all, the application you are using the Monkey for: classic rock crunch/bluesy singing solo sound/twangy country-rock break-up/biting, edgy, cuting solo sound/etc.
...too many factors that contribute to the way you have to set the knobs to make it work for your guitar, amp, playing style, and musical genre! Personally, playing rockabilly/country rock/roots rock with a Terle with slightly higher output, but bright pickusp, I like my BM best with the gain set on the lower half of the range, and the bass and treble pots depending on the amp I use it with (bass turned up a bit & treble turned down for Vox-ish, EL84-equipped Carvin Vintage 16; bass turned down & treble at neutral for my Marshall JTM45 clone, and both EQ knobs around neutral for my Fender-ish 6L6-equipped Kustom amp). |
