The Cusak has no rate knob, which is a huge deal breaker for me. But it is by all accounts a great trem and does have some very nice features that even the Empress doesn't have, but i HAVE to have a rate knob or expression in cause i am all about the ramping.

So my trem to end all trems is the Empress. It is great for straight up swamp throbble and then it has some crazy fun stuff. It does a great chop trem it hold 2 speeds and lets you ramp up or down to them and it has sine, square and triangle. All three sound killer. And then it has all of these wonderful rhythms where it hits the first throb harder and subsequent throbs less hard to give you an metrical hierarchy add an autowah or a gate after this and it just gets out of control silly fun. I love this trem and it has been on my board for 2 years now. Steve is an amazing guy and he is upgrading my trem now with the second LED that indicates the rate (I have an early model, the new ones all have these upgrades) and giving me a few other upgrades and something custom and cool that is my little dream come true that no other trem has (I actually have a long list of holy grail trem features all mocked up in a MaxMSP patch that would be the tremolo box to end all tremolo boxes).

I use all this stuff.... and i run my synth through this as well. But even if i didn't i would still sing the praises of this box, cause it is gig solid (mine has been to Korea, Taiwan, and Japan), backed by a great company, and does the straight up trem very very well.

Not everyone needs all this, but i do. Killer box. I got it when it first came out for under 2 bills. One of the very few boutique extravagances i allowed myself and it has been tweaked prolly a hundred gigs and is all over my last 2 cds. One of my very favorite pedals ever.

MY dream is to work with Steve on an Empress II. But i just love this trem. I highly recommend it. I bet his delay is the shizzle too.

Awesome. Thanks for the great review. The Fulltone served me well over the weekend's jobs, but as trem is rapidly becoming a larger part of the toolbox, I'll be taking a hard look at the Empress. Thanks again.

I suggest the EH Stereo Pulsar. Great basic tremolo that you can pick between sine and square waves and adjust the peak of the wave as well. I paid like $85 for mine a year ago and it's never let me down.

I see General Guitar Gadget has Tremolo with Rate, Depth and Volume control for $60 (you have to build it).

I am waiting for either GGG or BYOC to come out with tremolo that includes the wave control as well the Rate, Depth, and Volume on it. The I might consider changing.

Depends on what you're looking for. I like the Demeter Tremulator, which is built like a brick and uber-reliable. It sounds like a BF Twin's trem but can go faster/slower, etc. No volume drop either. If you like Fender trem then you can't go wrong with one. The Dano Tuna Melt is an amazing pedal for the price too.

But if you find one on the cheap it does an amazing slow chop!
I had one, it was pretty good... and it could get crazy slow. Like "is this thing working?? Oh... yes, it is". A HC review described it best with 'continental drift' slow

I found the sweet spot a bit hard to dial in though, with the speed range that wide. Sold it in the end, kept my Tuna Melt.

There are 2 that I think stand out (at least to me!):

1. The Demeter Tremulator - just a super solid trem pedal.

2. The Dr. Scientist Tremolessence. Also a fantastic trem pedal - and very funky too!

My favorite for a looooooooong time was the discontinued Boss Panner/Tremolo. It is an excellent pedal.

I currently use a Catalinbread tremolo and really like it a lot.

Yeah I have seen those Boss panner/Tremolo on E Bay and http://www.musicgoround.com and on Gear Base http://www.gbase.com web sites.

In fact there is a couple on E Bay one is $700 (which way too high) and the second one has bid of over $76.

I'm surprised...

that no one has mentioned the "Swamp Thang"--kinda big on the board but it sure throbs nice!

The new Dano Cool Cat trem is a huge step up in build quality from their older pedals and sounds great- $39 I'm gonna put the little Guyatone on my board only because it has knobs on top so it will be easier to adjust.

Actually, I'm one reason I'm considering that new Dano *because* of the layout, you can stomp over it to reach a pedal behind it, without bumping knobs.

+1

Been through a few. Just received a Keeley modded Boss TR-2 and it is a keeper.
